HEIDELBERG IN SEVERAL FRAMES

Today I’m taking you on a short trip to the beautiful German city of Heidelberg. I had the chance to visit it last spring, during one of those rare weekends when I had both Saturday and Sunday off. On the first day I decided to explore the city and on the second I went to see the local botanical garden.

The pictures I’m sharing today were taken near the Staustufe Heidelberg – a lock and weir complex on the Neckar River. It is not the famous Old Bridge (that one will also appear here one day 😄) but rather a functional part of the river infrastructure. Still the view from here was worth a stop.

It was really enjoyable to stand by and watch massive barges slowly pass through the lock. I even managed to catch one on camera - a moment of movement in the otherwise peaceful landscape.

There will be more frames from Heidelberg coming soon, especially from the castle area, where I spent most of my time and took way too many photos. 😅

📌A few facts about Heidelberg:

Heidelberg is located in the state of Baden-Württemberg and sits on the banks of the Neckar River. It's one of Germany’s most picturesque and historic cities. The town is famous for its castle ruins, old university and baroque-style Old Town that survived WWII bombings nearly untouched.

It’s also home to Germany’s oldest university, founded in 1386, which helped shape Heidelberg into a vibrant, intellectual and cultural hub. The Karl-Theodor Bridge, built in the 18th century, connects the Old Town with the eastern bank of the river and offers one of the best views in town.

Miałam okazję odwiedzić je wiosną zeszłego roku, podczas jednego z tych rzadkich weekendów, kiedy miałam wolną zarówno sobotę jak i niedzielę. Pierwszego dnia zdecydowałam się pozwiedzać miasto, a drugiego wybrałam się do tamtejszego ogrodu botanicznego.

Zdjęcia, którymi się dzisiaj dzielę, zostały zrobione w pobliżu Staustufe Heidelberg – czyli kompleksu śluzy i jazu na rzece Neckar. To nie jest słynny Stary Most (ten też się tutaj kiedyś pojawi 😄), tylko bardziej funkcjonalna część rzecznej infrastruktury. Mimo to widok stamtąd naprawdę był wart zatrzymania się choć na chwilę.

Bardzo przyjemnie było patrzeć, jak ogromne barki powoli przepływają przez śluzę. Udało mi się nawet uchwycić jedną z nich na zdjęciu – moment ruchu w spokojnym, niemal nieruchomym krajobrazie.

Wkrótce pojawi się więcej kadrów z Heidelbergu, zwłaszcza z okolic zamku, gdzie spędziłam najwięcej czasu i oczywiście zrobiłam dużo zdjęć. 😅

📌 Kilka faktów o Heidelbergu:

Heidelberg leży w kraju związkowym Badenia-Wirtembergia, nad brzegiem rzeki Neckar. To jedno z najbardziej malowniczych i historycznych miast Niemiec. Słynie z ruin zamku, starego uniwersytetu oraz barokowej Starówki, która niemal nietknięta przetrwała bombardowania podczas II wojny światowej.

To również siedziba najstarszego uniwersytetu w Niemczech – założonego w 1386 roku – który nadał miastu charakter intelektualnego i kulturalnego centrum. Most Karola Teodora, zbudowany w XVIII wieku, łączy Starówkę z wschodnim brzegiem rzeki i oferuje jeden z najpiękniejszych widoków w całym mieście.
