Checking Out Toronto Transit Line 5 - Cedarvale to Eglinton Stations

Hi there. A short travel post by me here. I had to time to spare in the city to check out Toronto's recent Line 5 in the subway system.

I go from Cedarvale (formerly Eglinton West) to Eglinton subway station.

Toronto's Transit Map

With the addition of the line 5 and line 6 lines, the Toronto subway system looks like this.

I travel on the orange Line 5 from one end of the yellow Line 1 to the other. That is from the left side where the yellow and orange meet to the right interesction of yellow & orange.

There are four stops from Cedarvale to Eglinton.

Cedarvale Station Arrival

I was heading northbound from downtown Toronto to Cedarvale Station. The exit/transition area is at the back of the train area.

Cedarvale Station Line 5 Orange Route

Getting to Cedarvale Line 5 is kind of interesting. There is a new and clean looking section that gets you to Line 5. Line 5 is a level lower than Line 1.

Eglinton Station Line 5

Here is Eglinton Station Line 5. It looks similar to Cedarvale station on Line 5.

You go up the stairs to Eglinton Station on the Line 1 route. It is kind of cramped and busy. Watch your own safety as there are no subway barriers.

Notes

Even though line 5 is fairly new, there are no barriers. It is not like in Japan or China where there are subway barriers. I kind of snicker to myself when the Toronto TTC transit make an announcement where they say they care about your safety.

I did not time it but it seemed like it was around 10 minutes to from one end of the yellow Line 1 to the other side. If one side of Line 1 has long delays then you could use the orange line 5 to go to the other side.

The light rail streetcars are not as long as the trains. It does not hold as many people and the seats are kind of smaller. It does get the job done from going travelling east to west and vice versa along Eglinton Avenue from the west side of Toronto to the east side in Scarborough.

Thank you for reading.
