Meriton Suites: Campbell Street, Sydney, AUSTRALIA

Another from a long list of hotels and apartments that I get to stay at whilst working with various ensembles and orchestras... I'm not crazily fond of travel, and I really like being at home. Sigh... I probably chose the wrong job...

.. but at least I do get to stay at nice places most of the time. I'm not really fussy, I have stayed at really ordinary places as well... and it is nice when you aren't paying for these places!

Anyway, this Meriton Apartment Suites are in the middle of Sydney, just near Central and Chinatown. I honestly had no idea that they were here... you can quite easily walk past the entrance without even realising!

It is quite a clean and modern looking place after the entrance and at the reception... and when I tried to book an extra night... well, it was about another 350 dollars for a single night... so, I opted to stay elsewhere! Yep, this isn't the sort of place that I would stay at when travelling with my family... a touch pricier than I would prefer! Still... it is really conveniently situated!

Anyway, after checking in... there are really fancy lifts. You don't push a button... but you swipe your entry card, and then one of the five lifts gets allocated to you and takes you right up to the correct floor. Nice... but I do wonder if the old system really needed that much of a tech update...

....corridors of these hotels and apartment suite complexes... they really never spend that much effort on them. It is the modern way of things... the old hotels always had much more charm and character. These are just functional and cold...

Inside the apartment... it is clean and modern again. And this time it is a studio apartment, meaning that everything except for the shower/toilet bathroom area is one open area. Not a problem as a single traveler for work... and as a couple, it is fine as well.

This time, I'm not staying long enough with enough free time to do any cooking anyway... that is the only thing that I find bothersome about these set ups... the cooking smells just get all through the studio and into clothes and everything.

And a large bed rounds out the area... weirdly enough, I couldn't find a bin anywhere! Strange... so, all my take away containers are slowly stacking up.

Something to note... most of the time, I'm really quite uncomfortable on hotel pillows... they are often waaay too soft, and I have to double them up. And the beds also tend to the soft side of things... and all of that tends to be a bit rough on my back when I sleep... even more so as I get older!

... but this hotel has a decently firm mattress... and the pillows are really great as well! They come in about 4 different heights and firmness.... and they are crazily comfy! Interestingly enough, they also sell them at the front reception as well... I wonder if there is some sort of partnership between the pillow provider and the hotel?

Well... I'm quite tempted!

A pretty night view of the surrounding buildings... could be worse, but in the middle of the city, well... you aren't going to get much else!

Looks like a fairly decent hotel! I feel like my wife and I are living out of hotels lately. We have three trips planned in a short amount of time that has seen us at hotels three out of four weekends.
