I never put it either in water or plant directly but leave in a warm but shady place to make roots and the ends to heal. It's still winter for you though? I don't know if it's warmer or colder now on Cyprus. If it's cooler, leave it in the house.

That sounds warm enough for it to start making roots although leaving it inside will make that process faster
