A Morning in Paradise: Fog, Hens, Cats & Choko Shock 🌄🐔🐾

Good morning from the hills of Cagli! ☀️

Today I'm taking you with me on a full morning walk around Ca' Paradiso, our little farm in the heart of Marche, Italy. It's the first of October: the valley is still wrapped in fog, the air smells of wet grass and the whole farm is slowly waking up. Grab a coffee, turn up the music and come along! ☕🎶

🌫️ The road home

We start on the strada bianca, the white gravel road that leads to Ca' Paradiso. At dawn it disappears into the fog after a few metres, and it feels like walking into a cloud. Our faithful escort is always there: @choko.shock, our Lagotto Romagnolo, trotting ahead with a couple of hens following him like bodyguards. 😄 Sometimes he even brings his orange ball, just in case someone wants to play.

Along the road, the yellow Jerusalem artichokes (topinambur) are in full bloom, and every spider web sparkles with hundreds of tiny dew drops. It's like nature has hung up its jewels for the morning.

🔨 Building the new coop

Then we reach the vegetable garden, where the cabbages are growing under their straw blanket. Just behind it stands the new home for our hens, a wooden coop we're building with our own hands. In the photos you can see the roof going on: OSB panels first, then the waterproof membrane, all with a view of the mountains that would make any builder happy. When the first sun hits the walls, the whole coop glows orange like a lantern. 🧡

🐔 The girls are up!

The real stars of this video are our free-range hens. Red ones and white ones, they roam all over the farm from the first light: scratching in the grass, exploring the bushes, raiding the basil and, of course, gathering for breakfast treats. Watching them is pure therapy. Each one has her own character, and they all know exactly where the best bugs are hiding!

🐈 Uninvited guests

Our neighbours' cats came by too: the black panther with golden eyes and the shy grey-and-white tabby, both peeking out from the leaves. They know very well that if Choko spots them, the chase begins! 😹

🍉 Little treasures of autumn

In the grass we found a few late watermelons hiding among the clover, still shiny with dew. There were also juniper bushes full of berries turning from green to red and purple, and tiny pink wildflowers covered in morning drops. Autumn here is full of small surprises, as long as you walk slowly and look closely.

🏡 Welcome to Ca' Paradiso

At the end of the walk, there she is: Ca' Paradiso, our old brick farmhouse among the trees. This is where our guests wake up to mornings like this one. And yes, that's me in the car window reflection, with my pipe and a big smile. After 40 years in front of a computer, this is the office I chose! 😊

🎶 About the music

The soundtrack is a symphonic piece composed especially for this video. It opens softly with harp and strings and grows into a triumphant finale, just like a foggy morning turning into a sunny day.
