entry smash 409: Icelandic horses

while we were travelling in western Norway, more specifically Ryfylke, we had the distinct pleasure of staying a night at Fossanmoen Horse Farm. the Icelandic horses were outstanding, as was the surrounding nature nearby the spectacular Lysefjord. it was an altogether wonderful experience. i must admit that shadow hunting was not the top priority of our travels but that being said i always keep an eye out for opportunities of a more shadowy nature. and as we had nice sunny weather while the friendly well-groomed horses were out grazing, the opportunities presented themselves when we offered them a little treat.

for many years the horse farm arranged horseback trekking in breathtakingly scenic terrain with great overlooks to the popular Lysefjord but in 2024 they decided to call it quits and now focus more on breeding and training. fortunately for us they kept the guest house open for accommodating travellers like ourselves not primarily interested in riding

the Icelandic horse is a special hardy and pure breed developed over centuries of selective breeding with a natural selection playing a significant role in the harsh Icelandic environment. they are generally rather small in size but are both friendly and calm natured along with being well adapted to rugged terrain. as for color, it seems they come in all equine colors and shades as well as an impressive variety of patterns. i must add they cast a very nice shadow. i think you will agree.
