Happy Friday, everyone. I hope you have a fabulous day, filled with positive energy and that special feeling that comes with the last day of the week, when you start to look forward to the rest that’s just around the corner. For many, it’s a day off, but for me, it’ll be a workday. Still, it’s nothing compared to what we went through yesterday, and that’s exactly what I want to tell you about today.
Every Thursday, I have a routine of going to the Sunsol Ecoland hotel to chlorinate the main tank. It’s a job that’s become part of my week, almost like a technical ritual I know by heart. However, this Thursday, things took an unexpected turn. We were halfway there when we received an urgent call from the Sunsol Unik Hotel: they had an emergency and needed us to come immediately. There wasn’t much to think about; we changed our destination and picked up the pace.
The weather was beautiful—one of those days that seem made to soothe the soul. The sky had a soft light, perfect for taking photographs, and that’s what I did. Capturing the urban and natural landscapes unfolding before us helped me dispel some of the worry that was beginning to creep in. Sometimes, simply stopping to look at your surroundings is enough to remind you that even complicated days have their beauty.

Les deseo un día fabuloso, lleno de buenas energías y de esa sensación especial que trae el último día de la semana, cuando uno ya empieza a saborear el descanso que se acerca. Para muchos es un día ligero, pero para mí será un día de trabajo. Aun así, nada comparado con lo que vivimos ayer, y justamente eso es lo que quiero contarles hoy.
Cada jueves tengo la rutina de ir al hotel Sunsol Ecoland para realizar el clorado del tanque principal. Es un trabajo que ya forma parte de mi semana, casi como un ritual técnico que conozco de memoria. Sin embargo, este jueves las cosas tomaron un rumbo inesperado. Íbamos a medio camino cuando recibimos una llamada urgente del hotel Sunsol Unik: tenían una emergencia y necesitaban que fuéramos de inmediato. No hubo mucho que pensar; cambiamos el destino y aceleramos el paso.
El clima estaba hermoso, de esos días que parecen hechos para calmar el alma. El cielo tenía una luz suave, perfecta para tomar fotografías, y eso hice. Capturar los paisajes urbanos y naturales que se abrían ante nosotros me ayudó a disipar un poco la preocupación que empezaba a asomarse. A veces, detenerse a mirar el entorno es suficiente para recordar que incluso los días complicados tienen belleza.
When we arrived at the Unik Hotel, we went inside with the maintenance manager to assess the situation. One of the trench-type Dumes filters was malfunctioning; water was leaking out through the cover because one of the studs had broken due to the pressure. Apparently, the other filter was clogged, which caused the pressure to rise higher than it should have. The force was concentrated on the cover, the stud gave way, and that’s where the leak began.
Al llegar al hotel Unik entramos junto al gerente de mantenimiento para evaluar la situación. Uno de los filtros dumes de trinchera estaba fallando; el agua se salía por la tapa porque uno de los espárragos se había quebrado debido a la presión. Al parecer, el otro filtro estaba saturado y eso hizo que la presión subiera más de lo debido. La fuerza se concentró en la tapa, el espárrago cedió y por allí comenzó la fuga.
The first step was to shut off all the valves and set up a bypass so that the other filter could operate on its own while we made the repair. That process, though it seems simple, requires precision, strength, and patience. It took us most of the day. We were only able to replace two studs because the hotel didn’t have any more in stock. From experience, we know that ideally we should replace them all, but due to the hotel’s occupancy, we were told that we could return in three or four days to finish the job. For now, with what we’ve done, they can operate without immediate risk.
The work was intense. We had to loosen and tighten them over and over again until the water stopped leaking from the joint. It’s a physical and technical effort that demands concentration, but it’s also rewarding to see how, little by little, the problem is brought under control.
Lo primero fue cerrar todas las llaves y realizar un bypass para que el otro filtro trabajara solo mientras hacíamos la reparación. Ese proceso, aunque parece sencillo, requiere precisión, fuerza y paciencia. Nos tomó gran parte del día. Solo pudimos cambiar dos espárragos porque el hotel no tenía más en almacén. Por experiencia sabemos que lo ideal es cambiarlos todos, pero debido a la ocupación del hotel, nos informaron que dentro de tres o cuatro días podríamos regresar para completar el trabajo. Por ahora, con lo que hicimos, pueden operar sin riesgo inmediato.
El trabajo fue intenso. Había que ir soltando y apretando una y otra vez hasta lograr que dejara de salir agua por la junta. Es un esfuerzo físico y técnico que exige concentración, pero también es gratificante ver cómo, poco a poco, el problema se controla.
When we were finally done, we left the hotel with the satisfaction of having defused the crisis. We were exhausted, yes, but our hearts were at ease knowing we had done our duty. Nothing compares to that mix of exhaustion and pride you feel after resolving a difficult situation.
Cuando finalmente terminamos, nos retiramos del hotel con la satisfacción de haber atenuado la emergencia. Íbamos agotados, sí, pero con el corazón tranquilo por haber cumplido con nuestro deber. Nada se compara con esa mezcla de cansancio y orgullo que queda después de resolver una situación complicada.
Now I just hope this Friday goes more smoothly, that the day passes without any surprises, and that we can wrap up the week on a positive note.
