Sundays have always held a special charm for me. They’re those days when time seems to stand still and the daily grind eases up, allowing me to enjoy the peace and quiet of home with my family. I love it when I can stay home, plan something simple yet meaningful, and share it with my loved ones. Today, in fact, I’ve decided to take it easy and think about one of those activities we all enjoy so much. Tomorrow I’ll tell you how it turned out, but first I want to share what happened on Saturday—a day of hard work that ended up being a day of great satisfaction as well.
An important task awaited us on Saturday; we had to go to the Sunsol Ecoland hotel to clean and disinfect the Australian tank, a massive one-million-liter reservoir that will soon be filled for the Holy Week season. The urgency was clear, as the tank had to be in optimal condition to ensure water safety and quality. With that mission in mind, we left early and picked up the work crew. The journey was accompanied by vibrant weather, the kind that lifts the spirit and makes every kilometer traveled feel lighter. I took the opportunity to capture a few moments with my phone, because I always like to immortalize those moments that, though ordinary, hold a special value.
Los domingos siempre han tenido un encanto especial para mí. Son esos días en los que el tiempo parece detenerse y la rutina se suaviza, permitiéndome disfrutar de la calma del hogar junto a mi familia. Me gusta cuando puedo quedarme en casa, preparar un plan sencillo pero significativo, y compartirlo con los míos. Hoy, precisamente, he decidido descansar y pensar en una de esas actividades que tanto nos gustan a todos. Mañana les contaré cómo resultó, pero antes quiero relatarles lo vivido el sábado, un día de arduo trabajo que terminó siendo también una jornada de gran satisfacción.
El sábado nos esperaba una tarea importante; debíamos trasladarnos al hotel Sunsol Ecoland para limpiar y desinfectar el tanque australiano, un enorme depósito de un millón de litros que pronto será llenado para la temporada de Semana Santa. La urgencia era evidente, pues el tanque debía estar en condiciones óptimas para garantizar la seguridad y calidad del agua. Con esa misión en mente, salimos temprano y recogimos al equipo de trabajo. El trayecto estuvo acompañado por un clima vibrante, de esos que animan el espíritu y hacen que cada kilómetro recorrido se sienta más ligero. Aproveché para capturar algunos momentos con mi teléfono, porque siempre me gusta inmortalizar esos instantes que, aunque cotidianos, tienen un valor especial.
When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted by Carel, a charismatic person who was always willing to help. She guided us through the entire cleaning and disinfection process, making sure nothing was missing and that every detail was handled with precision.
Al llegar al hotel nos recibió Carel, una persona carismática y siempre dispuesta a colaborar. Ella nos acompañó durante todo el proceso de limpieza y desinfección, asegurándose de que nada faltara y de que cada detalle se cumpliera con precisión.
Early in the morning, we began climbing up to the tank with everything we needed for the job. This cleaning, however, turned out to be different from the usual ones. Normally, the tanks retain about 30 centimeters of water, which makes it easier to scrub the bottom and walls. On this occasion, the tank had been undergoing maintenance and repairs, so we found it completely dry and full of accumulated dirt.
Desde temprano comenzamos a subir hasta el tanque con todo lo necesario para la faena. Esta limpieza, sin embargo, resultó distinta a las habituales. Normalmente los tanques conservan unos 30 centímetros de agua, lo que facilita el cepillado del fondo y las paredes. En esta ocasión, el tanque había estado en mantenimiento y reparación, por lo que lo encontramos completamente seco y lleno de tierra acumulada.
The first step was to remove that soil. The team went inside the tank, and I stayed outside—as is usually the case—since they prefer that I be on hand to address any needs that might arise. While they filled the buckets with soil, I took care of emptying them, making sure the work moved along quickly. It was a coordinated effort, almost like a dance in which every movement had a purpose.
El primer paso fue retirar esa tierra. El equipo entró al tanque y yo permanecí afuera, como suele suceder, pues ellos prefieren que esté atenta a cualquier necesidad que surja. Mientras ellos llenaban los cubos con tierra, yo me encargaba de vaciarlos, asegurando que el trabajo fluyera con rapidez. Fue un esfuerzo coordinado, casi como una danza en la que cada movimiento tenía su propósito.
Once the interior had been cleared, the maintenance supervisor pumped water from the main tank to begin scrubbing. Little by little, we removed the caked-on grime until the water began to clear. After several rinses, we finally managed to get it to come out clean and clear—a sign that the job had been done right.
Una vez despejado el interior, el encargado de mantenimiento trásegó agua desde el tanque principal para iniciar el cepillado. Poco a poco fuimos eliminando el sucio incrustado, hasta que el agua comenzó a aclararse. Tras varios enjuagues, finalmente logramos que saliera limpia y transparente, señal de que el trabajo estaba bien hecho.
The final step, though simple, was essential: disinfecting the entire tank with 90% hypochlorite. Because it had been exposed to contaminants, it was necessary to ensure a thorough and safe cleaning.
El último paso, aunque sencillo, era fundamental; desinfectar todo el tanque con hipoclorito al 90%. Debido a que había estado expuesto a agentes contaminantes, era necesario garantizar una limpieza profunda y segura.
When we finished, the team members got out of the tank and, as a precaution, drank milk to counteract their exposure to hypochlorite. We then shared a light snack and rehydrated, regaining our energy after so many hours of hard work. As is tradition, we wrapped up the day with a group photo, a symbol of our unity and a reminder that together we succeeded in completing the mission.
Al concluir, los compañeros salieron del tanque y, como medida preventiva, tomaron leche para contrarrestar la exposición al hipoclorito. Luego compartimos una merienda ligera y nos hidratamos, recuperando energías después de tantas horas de esfuerzo. Como es tradición, cerramos la jornada con una foto grupal, símbolo de unión y recuerdo de que juntos logramos cumplir la misión.
We gathered up all our tools and headed home with a sense of a job well done. Despite our physical exhaustion, we were filled with the joy of having provided quality service and worked as a team with dedication and responsibility. That sense of recognition—both internal and external—is what turns a day’s work into a rewarding experience.
Recogimos todas las herramientas de trabajo y nos retiramos con la satisfacción del deber cumplido. Más allá del cansancio físico, nos acompañaba la alegría de haber brindado un servicio de calidad y de haber trabajado en equipo con compromiso y responsabilidad. Esa sensación de reconocimiento, tanto interno como externo, es lo que convierte un día de trabajo en una experiencia gratificante.
And that’s how our Saturday ended—intense, productive, and full of new lessons.
