[ENG/ESP] A night of work filled with exhaustion, pride, and color
Friday has arrived, and with it, that long-awaited desire for rest that we all look forward to during the week. However, mine will have to wait a little longer, because this time I have to work until Saturday. So my day off will be Sunday only—a brief respite before getting back into the routine. This week has been unusual; several tourists have arrived on the island because of the famous “long weekend.” For those unfamiliar with the term, let me explain briefly. A “puente” occurs when a holiday falls close to the weekend; when the holiday is combined with Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, it creates a long weekend. That’s why it’s called a “puente”—because it literally bridges the days and extends the break.
When this happens, vacationers and tourists take the opportunity to visit Margarita Island, seeking sun, beach, and that relaxed atmosphere that so characterizes this place. For us, who work in the hotel chain, these days mean more activity, more work, and, of course, more unexpected issues. And since I always like to share little snippets of my day-to-day life, today I’ll tell you about one of those unexpected issues we had to handle at the Sunsol Unik Hotel—specifically, in the heart of the water system.
As I’ve mentioned in other posts, we have to carry out this type of work in the early morning so as not to disturb the guests. They are our priority, and our job is to ensure that everything runs smoothly without them realizing the effort that goes into it. One of the things I enjoy most about this city hotel is its nighttime lighting—colored lights that bathe the facade and create a beautiful spectacle as you arrive. That night, the view gave me a brief moment of calm.
Llegó el viernes y, con él, ese anhelado deseo de descanso que todos esperamos durante la semana. Sin embargo, el mío tendrá que esperar un poco más, porque esta vez me toca trabajar hasta el sábado. Así que mi descanso será únicamente el domingo, un pequeño respiro antes de volver a comenzar la rutina. Esta semana ha sido particular; han llegado varios turistas a la Isla debido al famoso “puente”. Para quienes no están familiarizados con el término, les explico brevemente. Un puente ocurre cuando un día feriado cae cerca del fin de semana; entonces, al unirse el feriado con viernes, sábado y domingo, se forma un fin de semana largo. Por eso le dicen “puente”, porque literalmente se tiende un puente entre los días y se alarga el descanso.
Cuando esto sucede, los temporadistas y turistas aprovechan para venir a la Isla Margarita, buscando sol, playa y ese ambiente relajado que tanto caracteriza a este lugar. Para nosotros, que trabajamos en la cadena hotelera, estos días significan más movimiento, más trabajo y, por supuesto, más imprevistos. Y como siempre me gusta compartir pedacitos de mi día a día, hoy les contaré uno de esos imprevistos que tuvimos que atender en el Hotel Sunsol Unik, específicamente en el pulmón del sistema de agua.
Como les he contado en otras publicaciones, este tipo de trabajos debemos realizarlos en la madrugada para no molestar a los huéspedes. Ellos son la prioridad, y nuestra labor consiste en garantizar que todo funcione sin que se den cuenta del esfuerzo que hay detrás. Una de las cosas que más disfruto de este hotel urbano es su iluminación nocturna; luces de colores que bañan la fachada y crean un espectáculo hermoso al llegar. Esa noche, la vista me regaló un pequeño momento de calma.
We arrived at the hotel at 2:30 a.m. to begin work on the filter. When we reached the technical area, we were met by security personnel, who took photos of all our tools as part of the protocol. Then we had to wait a little over half an hour until the maintenance manager shut off the water supply on each floor of the hotel.

Once everything was ready, we got to work.
My husband and the blacksmiths began sanding and cutting away the damaged section of the filter. It was heavily corroded by rust, so we had to remove everything that was compromised. That section was replaced with a square sheet of steel, reinforced to withstand the pressure.

Then the bladder was deflated again, and new seams were sewn to prevent any leaks. This step was crucial, because that bladder operates at a pressure of 90 psi and couldn’t have even the slightest leak.
When we finished, it was 4:27 a.m. The job took two hours, carried out calmly but efficiently, making sure everything was perfect. A little tired and sleepy, but with the satisfaction of a job well done, we headed home.
