Today I have to go do my routine chlorination and disinfection at the Parque Costa Azul shopping center, and I sincerely hope the weather is much better than it was yesterday. Sometimes the weather in Margarita decides to surprise us, and this past Monday dawned a bit cloudy. Only a few timid rays of sunshine peeked out, only to hide again behind the gray sky moments later. It was as if the day couldn’t quite decide whether it wanted to be bright or remain shrouded in that soft mist that covered everything.
Although the weather wasn’t the usual radiant sunshine that cheers us up so much, my husband and I left early to do our work. In the morning, we were at the Sunsol Unik hotel, carrying out our maintenance routine, and in the afternoon, we had to go to the Sunsol Isla Caribe hotel, located on El Tirano Beach. That place always has a special charm, even when the sky is capricious.

Hoy debo ir a hacer mi rutina de clorado y desinfección en el centro comercial Parque Costa Azul, y sinceramente espero que el clima esté mucho mejor que el de ayer. A veces el tiempo en Margarita decide sorprendernos, y este lunes que recién culminó amaneció un poco nublado. Apenas salían unos tímidos rayos de sol que, por momentos, se escondían de nuevo detrás del cielo gris. Era como si el día no terminara de decidir si quería ser luminoso o quedarse envuelto en esa neblina suave que cubría todo.
A pesar de que el clima no era el acostumbrado sol radiante que tanto nos anima, mi esposo y yo salimos temprano a realizar nuestro trabajo. En la mañana estuvimos en el hotel Sunsol Unik, cumpliendo con nuestra rutina de mantenimiento, y en la tarde nos tocó ir al hotel Sunsol Isla Caribe, ubicado en playa El Tirano. Ese lugar siempre tiene un encanto especial, incluso cuando el cielo está caprichoso.
After finishing our work, we decided to take a short stroll through El Tirano, because it always has beautiful scenery to offer. As lovers of the sea, we really enjoy these impromptu walks, which give us a chance to unwind after a day’s work.
The smell of the sea mixed with the aroma of fried fish wafting from the restaurants right on the shore is, without a doubt, one of the most delightful attractions of this tour. It’s a scent that envelops you, reminding you that you’re on a vibrant island steeped in tradition.
Después de terminar nuestras labores, decidimos dar un pequeño recorrido por El Tirano, porque siempre tiene paisajes hermosos que mostrarnos. Nosotros, amantes del mar, disfrutamos muchísimo estos paseos improvisados que nos regalan un respiro después de un día de trabajo.
El olor a mar mezclado con el aroma del pescado frito que sale de los restaurantes pegados a la orilla es, sin duda, uno de los atractivos más deliciosos de este recorrido. Es un olor que te abraza, que te recuerda que estás, en una isla viva y llena de tradición.
It’s also a privilege to watch the fishermen stow their traps in their boats as they prepare for the day’s work. Even watching them repair their boat engines is part of the everyday scene—a sight so authentic that you can’t help but stop and watch. It’s like seeing the very essence of coastal life.
También es un privilegio ver a los pescadores acomodar las nasas en sus botes, preparándose para la faena. Incluso observarlos reparar los motores de sus lanchas es parte del paisaje cotidiano, una escena tan auténtica que uno no puede evitar detenerse a mirar. Es como ver la esencia misma de la vida costera.
We continued our walk because the plan was to make it all the way to Puerto Abajo Beach. We’d decided to sit down for a while to clear our heads. On weekdays, this beach is usually very quiet, almost silent, which makes it perfect for relaxing. On weekends, however, it fills up with families with children, since it’s not a deep beach and doesn’t have much of a surf. We love it, but we definitely prefer it on weekdays—and if it’s in the afternoon, even better.
Continuamos nuestro paseo porque la idea era llegar hasta la playa Puerto Abajo. Habíamos decidido sentarnos un rato para despejar la mente. Entre semana esta playa suele estar muy tranquila, casi silenciosa, y eso la hace perfecta para relajarse. Los fines de semana, en cambio, se llena de familias con niños, ya que no es una playa profunda ni de mucho oleaje. A nosotros nos encanta, pero definitivamente la preferimos entre semana y, si es en la tarde, mucho mejor.
From Puerto Abajo, you can see a stunning view of Guayamurí Hill. I love that view; I could spend hours looking at it because its beauty never gets old.

Given the time of day and the weather—which had been a bit rough for fishing—all the boats were tied up at the shore. I didn’t waste any time: as we walked, I sat down for a moment and my husband took some photos of me to capture the memory.

When there are so many boats gathered together, there’s always someone looking after them—and, of course, there’s no shortage of furry four-legged friends who come up with that sweet look, hoping you’ll give them something to eat. I know bread isn’t the best thing for their coats, but it was the only thing I had on hand, and they happily accepted it.

With our lungs filled with sea breeze and our eyes fully satisfied, we headed home feeling light and with clear minds. That’s the effect the sea has on us; it renews us, calms us, and restores our energy.
