[ENG/ESP] A day of uncertainty, painted with calm.
Greetings. I wish you a pleasant Sunday, filled with serenity. I hope mine passes peacefully, much more serene than Saturday, which was fraught with tension from early on.
This Saturday we woke up to the insistent sound of the phone ringing. It was calls from family and friends, all with the same concern: the situation in the country. Although the island feels a little removed from recent events, we couldn't remain indifferent. We decided to take some precautions, just in case, and left the house with the intention of resolving the most urgent matters.
I had so many things on my mind that, when I got in the car, I felt like I was on autopilot. My first thought was to go fill up the gas tank. While my husband drove, my mind wandered between news reports, messages, and possible scenarios. It was my husband who snapped me out of my trance with a simple but powerful phrase: “Look at the sky, how beautiful it is.” I looked up and saw beautiful clouds that seemed to be delicately painted across the blue sky. Nature has this gift of reconnecting us, of reminding us that, despite everything, beauty is still there, waiting to be contemplated.
Saludos. Les deseo un lindo domingo, lleno de serenidad. Espero que el mío transcurra con tranquilidad, mucho más sereno que el sábado que acaba de pasar, que estuvo cargado de tensión desde muy temprano.
Este sábado nos despertamos con el sonido insistente del teléfono. Eran llamadas de familiares y amigos, todos con la misma preocupación, la situación del país. Aunque la Isla se siente un poco alejada de los últimos acontecimientos, no podíamos quedarnos indiferentes. Decidimos tomar algunas precauciones, por si acaso, y salimos de casa con la intención de resolver lo más urgente.
Tenía tantas cosas en la cabeza que, al subir al auto, me sentía como en piloto automático. Mi primer pensamiento fue ir a cargar combustible. Mientras mi esposo conducía, mi mente divagaba entre noticias, mensajes y escenarios posibles. Fue mi esposo quien me sacó de ese trance con una frase sencilla pero poderosa: “Mira el cielo, qué hermoso está”. Alce la vista y me encontré con hermosas nubes que parecían pintadas con gran delicadeza sobre el cielo azul. La naturaleza tiene ese don de reconectarnos, de recordarnos que, a pesar de todo, la belleza sigue ahí, esperando ser contemplada.
After filling up the car with gas, we headed to the Sigo market. We wanted to stock up on some perishable food items. We know they don't solve all our problems, but they help lighten the load. When we arrived, we found a fairly long line. The people, although tired, remained calm. There were looks of uncertainty, but also gestures of solidarity.
Después de llenar el tanque del auto de gasolina, nos dirigimos al mercado Sigo. Queríamos abastecernos de algunos alimentos perecederos. Sabemos que no resuelven todos los problemas, pero ayudan a aligerar la carga. Al llegar, nos encontramos con una cola bastante larga. La gente, aunque cansada, mantenía la calma. Había miradas de incertidumbre, pero también gestos de solidaridad.
Finally, we managed to do our shopping and set off on our return journey, passing through a city that seemed suspended in time. The streets were emptier than usual, and the silence felt like a constant whisper, as if the city itself were holding its breath.
Finalmente, logramos hacer nuestras compras y emprendimos el regreso, atravesando una ciudad que parecía suspendida en el tiempo. Las calles estaban más vacías de lo habitual, y el silencio se sentía como un susurro constante, como si la ciudad misma estuviera conteniendo la respiración.
As I passed through La Asunción, right in front of the maestro's square, a poster caught my attention. On it, a quote from the unforgettable Frida Kahlo read: “I paint flowers so they won't die.” I paused for a moment and felt that those words were a direct message to me. I have always been an admirer of Frida, her art, her strength, and her way of looking at life. At home, I have several corners decorated with her image and her works. Seeing that sign was like a gentle reminder: don't let worry consume you, paint your day with colors of hope.
Al pasar por La Asunción, justo frente a la plaza del maestro, un cartel captó mi atención. En él, una frase de la inolvidable Frida Kahlo decía: “Pinto flores para que así no mueran”. Me detuve un momento, y sentí que esas palabras eran un mensaje directo para mí. Siempre he sido una admiradora de Frida, de su arte, su fuerza y su forma de ver la vida. En casa tengo varios rincones decorados con su imagen y sus obras. Ver ese cartel fue como un suave recordatorio: no te dejes consumir por la preocupación, pinta tu día con colores de esperanza.
With that thought in mind, we resumed our journey toward our last task of the day: buying food for my birds. Although I had bought food for them just a few days ago, I decided to purchase another bag. In these uncertain times, it is better to have a reserve. Many stores have not opened, and I do not want to risk running out of what they need. They are also part of our responsibility.
Con ese pensamiento en mente, retomamos el camino hacia nuestra última tarea del día: comprar comida para mis aves. Aunque hace apenas unos días les había comprado alimento, decidí adquirir otro saco. En estos tiempos inciertos, es mejor tener una reserva. Muchos locales no han abierto, y no quiero arriesgarme a quedarme sin lo necesario para ellas. Ellas también son parte de nuestra responsabilidad.
With all the necessary steps taken, as far as possible, we returned home, feeling that we had done everything in our power. Now all that remains is to wait, with faith and patience, for things to calm down, for normality to return, and for us to be able to breathe easy again.
Thank you for accompanying me on this day, which began with some uncertainty for me, but ended with a lesson painted with calm.

Con todas las diligencias hechas, dentro de lo posible, regresamos a casa, sentíamos que habíamos hecho lo que estaba en nuestras manos. Ahora solo queda esperar, con fe y paciencia, que las cosas se calmen, que la normalidad regrese y que podamos volver a respirar con tranquilidad.

Un día agotador, a mi se me fue a mañana tratando de procesar lo que estaba sucediendo, menos mal que se calmó un poco, aunque hay que estar atentos a como se desenvuelve todo, cuidese mucho.
