An exhausting commute that somehow clears my mind

The summer is over, the vacation days are over and now I am back at work and with that comes... commuting. Yeah, as a consultant I need to go once per week at the client and have some meetings alongside with some technical reviews on developed software units. And it is not like I am commuting in the same city, but rather I need to fly at a distance of about 2,300 km. That means a 3 hour flight alongside Bolt, bus, metro and other links in between. Usually when I get to the office, I am dead beat and without the energy of doing anything. But as the client pays me quite well, as long as I can keep up this rhythm I guess I am good. Sometimes I feel like really going just to interrupt the usual routine and simply fly in a multicultural city in Europe: Brussels. And that sometimes is even tomorrow when I start my commute at about 4 AM in the morning, getting to the office at about 9 AM based with all the travel links that I have and getting in touch with my colleagues.

What I like about this kind of commute even if it is tiresome is that my mind moves to travel mode and it allows it to fly with the thoughts in all the direction. It is like open season for whatever goes through my mind and I feel a lot of positive energy coming from that. Sometimes I even end up with some good plans in my personal life, professional one or otherwise. Getting myself on the road and on the move, invokes some creativity that I don't usually have. So while I am writing this article from the airport before onboarding, I wonder what it is in place for me.

This time I've decided to spend most of the weekend in Brussels, staying at hotels, getting out to terraces and beers with my colleagues and taking some walks in the city. This means that even if going there will be hard, the way I planned the weekend I will have enough time to relax and refresh myself. Next week I have few birthdays in the family so probably I will do some shopping as well. Thus I think this time it is a good commute as I get to do so many things.

That's about it from my side and probably I will not be able to be so active during the day on this ecosystem. But I am eager to see what new creative ideas will hit me and I will share them with you if any. Life on the road might not be easy, but it is also upon us how we make it and plan it. I always say that I don't know how much more time I can do this and it passed 5 years since than. And there are still good moments, even if there are also bad. But with all the hard things from the job market, the need now pushes me as well to keep on going. So what I can tell is just this: enjoy the day, finish the Friday strong and go into the weekend with everything that you want to do. Relax and have fun!

My commute is about 30 minutes one way. It's mostly open highway with very few cars on the road. Evening can be a bit busier, but it is still relatively smooth. I've come to enjoy it as decompression time.
