A Name Born Out Of Survival.

Well, my nickname, marsdave. Was one I never really sit down to think about it back then. I didn't take time out to research about it, I didn't even have a lot of names to choose from. I just came up with that....I guess maybe because I have an older brother who had the nickname Venus. Then I thought of a planet too, and it was Mars. Then we had marsdave.

I can’t even explain how it came about. I don't know why it had to be Mars. It just popped into my head and I went with it. As at then, I wasn't even concerned about how it sounded or to check for whatever meaning it carried. I just felt the need for something that could standout. I had a lot of people who call me that back then, some still do, though that is the name I'm known with here...marsdave.

But deep down, I never really felt anything for the name. I don't hold a meaning for it. Funny enough, an area sister of mine saw me writing and saw my nickname here, just last week, and she asked me the meaning of the name just last week. I just covered it with another topic entirely. I had never tried to find any meaning it could have. To me, that nickname was just there on my profile, doing it's work of being...just a username.

To be honest, today, if I had the chance to change it, I would do it without even thinking twice. You would love to ask me why right.....About two years ago, a nickname came into my life, and unlike my current username, this new one has meaning...a deep one at that. The name was born out of story, and survival. That name is Milliracle. It may sound playful, or sound somehow, but it has very great meaning. Some often mistake it as Miracle. Milliracle was the name that carries my whole journey in one word.

Milliracle stands for.....Million Little Miracles. Forget about the fact that it sounds or looks fancy. My whole life, the experiences I had, everything about was embedded in that name. It is a summary of my life. Growing up hasn’t been smooth. I have faced a lot of challenges, situations that made me question everything.....from my health to my faith to family to academics to friendships. But, one way or the other.... I always found small sparks of light that keep me going. I have survived things everyone had lost hope on, I had experience help and kindness from where I least expect, opportunities that looked impossible at first had come my way and all those were my little miracles that add up together to shape me.

I have a lot of friends who call me that, and the beautiful part is that each time they call me Milliracle it often reminds me of what I have been through. It reminds me that I am not just existing, it reminds me that I am a proof and product of grace, it reminds me that I am a testimony. Even I laugh at myself sometimes when I think of how unserious I was with my choice of username. But thats life. Life is a journey, and we most times grow into names that define us. So yes, if given the chance to change my identity, I would do so...gladly. I would choose Milliracle, because in that name lies the million little reasons I’m still here.
