🌿 THE MAGNIFICENT ECOSYSTEM 🌿 (ENG-ESP)

• Today we are going to talk about the ecosystem of one of Lisbon's magical places; it is called Sintra and has a lot to offer, with its history, castles, palaces, parks, monuments, etc. But one of the things that makes this place special is its ecosystem; the fresh air and green landscapes are something that Sintra embraces, so let's learn about the ecosystem and the plants that grow and contribute to the region.

• El día de hoy vamos a hablar del ecosistema de uno de los lugares mágicos de Lisboa; se llama Sintra y tiene mucho para ofrecer, tanto con su historia, castillos, palacios, parques, monumentos, etc. Pero una de las cosas que hace este lugar especial es su ecosistema; el aire puro y los paisajes verdes son algo que abraza Sintra, así que vamos a aprender del ecosistema y las plantas que nacen y contribuyen a la región.

• The Sintra Natural Park is a protected area due to its biodiversity. It has a mountain range where granite is found, and it was one of the places where this material was extracted for construction in the city in the past. The highest point in Lisbon is located in this mountain range, at an altitude of 520 meters, and you can visit a beautiful viewpoint at the Pena Palace where you can feel that altitude.

• Another interesting feature of Sintra is its microclimate. What does that mean? It means that its climate is different from the climate outside the mountains; when you enter the Sintra mountains, you will feel that the place is colder, more humid, and foggy. One of the factors responsible for creating this microclimate is the Atlantic Ocean; the mountains are so close to the water. Even in summer, Lisbon usually reaches a high temperature of 36-38 degrees, but in the Sintra mountains it is very rare for the temperature to rise above 30 degrees; however, the downside is that this area always tends to be rainier.

• El parque natural de Sintra es un área protegida debido a su biodiversidad; en este lugar tiene una sierra donde nace el granito, siendo una de las sierras de donde antiguamente era extraído dicho material para construcciones en la ciudad. El punto más alto de Lisboa se encuentra en esta sierra, teniendo una altura de 520 metros de altitud, y puedes visitar un hermoso mirador en el palacio da Pena donde puedes sentir esa altitud.

• Otra de las cosas de Sintra es su microclima. ¿Qué quiere decir eso? Es que su clima es diferente al clima fuera de la sierra; cuando entres a la sierra de Sintra, sentirás el lugar más frío, húmedo y nebuloso. Uno de los responsables de la creación de este microclima es el océano Atlántico; la sierra se encuentra tan cerca del agua. Incluso en verano, Lisboa suele llegar a su temperatura alta de 36-38 grados, pero dentro de la Sierra de Sintra suele ser muy extraño subir a los 30 grados; pero el lado negativo es que esta zona siempre tiene tendencia a ser más lluviosa.

• When the natural environment is well cared for, we will have a rich fauna, and Sintra is home to a wide variety of birds, reptiles, mammals, and amphibians. These include hawks, foxes, genets, porcupines, rabbits, and vipers.

• Sintra's vegetation: different plants, some of which are typically found in tropical countries, but due to its microclimate, these species had no trouble adapting to Sintra. In this natural paradise, you can see ferns, ivy, cherry laurel, spider plants, and aloe vera; these were some of the species I was able to identify with the naked eye.

• Cuando la zona natural es bien cuidada, tendremos una buena fauna, y en Sintra se encuentra una gran diversidad de aves, reptiles, mamíferos y anfibios. Como halcones, zorros, ginetas, puercoespines, conejos y víboras.

• Sintra a nivel de vegetación: distintas plantas, algunas incluso clásicas de ver en países tropicales, pero debido a su microclima, esas especies no tuvieron problemas en adaptarse en Sintra. En este paraíso natural puedes ver helechos, hederas, laurel de cereza, planta de araña y sávilas; fueron algunas de las especies que logré identificar a ojo.
