Good morning, dear Hivers, and welcome back to my blog!
Today I bring you to discover an oasis of nature and relaxation: a place where you can unwind far from the frenetic chaos of the city.
We are in Lecce, and its "green lung" is the "Giuseppe Garibaldi" Public Gardens. Silence and peace reign supreme here, making it the ideal spot for a stroll, reading a book, or jogging.
The gardens are located near the Castle of Charles V and Piazza Sant’Oronzo, the city's two most iconic landmarks.

What I appreciated most about this place is the feeling that you are walking through an open-air museum. Indeed, the municipality didn't simply plant trees; they also incorporated neoclassical architectural elements throughout the grounds.
As you pass through the main entrance, it feels as though you are stepping into another era. To begin with, you are welcomed by lush vegetation featuring holm oaks, pines, and centuries-old palm trees.
But the true star of the show is the small circular temple, also known as the "Lecce's Pantheon". It is a small shrine clad in emerald-green majolica tiles, supported by eight white columns. A true paradise!

Continuing your stroll, you come across a marvelous ornamental fountain. A small wrought-iron bridge has been installed here, evoking the romantic gardens of the 19th century.
Given that the Puglia region is one of the hottest parts of Italy, this little corner with the fountain offers a truly refreshing alternative during the summer months!

The locals in Lecce also refer to these gardens as the "Villa della Lupa" (Villa of the She-Wolf) because, until just a few decades ago, several female wolves were kept in a fenced-off enclosure within the grounds. I also discovered that the city's coat of arms actually depicts a she-wolf beneath a holm oak tree.
I hope that, through my photos, I’ve managed to convey the true beauty of this place. Thanks for reading!
See next time,
Delilha
Delilha
