Greetings, fellow travelers! Today I hiked a trail in an area of Loures known for its natural beauty and for being part of a small, millions-of-years-old historical reserve. Some of the country’s most incredible and historically significant caves were formed here; however, what really drew me to complete this route was the natural landscape nestled amidst small villages—not to mention the chance to get some exercise, of course!🌍🏞️

I once explored this area; it was raining at the time, and the terrain was so overgrown that many parts were inaccessible. Nowadays, the government has spruced up the mountain range, making it much easier to hike this trail—which I was never able to complete myself. I’ve included the coordinates here, in case you happen to be visiting as a traveler.😮🧭

La zona de Lousa es característica porque hay mucha siembra de hortalizas y bastantes quintas. No existen apartamentos, es una zona muy antigua y con una población alta de personas ancianas, lo que te permite disfrutar de un turismo o un sendero bastante aislado. Sí te advierto que en el momento que pongas el pie en la montaña ya no hay marcha atrás ni podrás comprar agua o comida; por eso, ven bien preparado.🏞️🚩
The Lousa area is characterized by extensive vegetable cultivation and numerous small country estates; there are no apartment buildings. It is a very old area with a large elderly population, which makes it a great place for a quiet, secluded hiking experience. Be warned, however: once you set foot on the mountain, there is no turning back, and you won’t be able to buy food or water—so come well-prepared.🧭🏔️

Upon reaching the summit of the mountain range, the views are spectacular. In my opinion, Loures—within the Lisbon district—is the most beautiful area, as it connects perfectly with nature. I have a post about this area where I explored a cave that was once inhabited by prehistoric people.🧭📸

I don’t want to dwell too much on the Salemas cave, as I’ve already written a post about it; it is clearly one of the area’s main attractions, alongside a prehistoric dolmen. According to archaeologists, this mountain has been inhabited for thousands of years—you can go for a hike and learn a great deal about Iberian culture.🚩🏔️
No quiero redundar mucho con la cueva de Salemas porque ya hice un post, y claramente es uno de los atractivos de esta zona junto a un dolmen prehistórico. Según los arqueólogos, esta montaña ha estado habitada desde hace miles de años; puedes hacer una caminata y aprender mucho sobre la cultura ibérica. 🏞️🗺️

I really enjoyed walking around the area and completing the trail—though I later realized it’s designed more for dirt bikes or mountain bikes, since the terrain is quite sandy. Still, it makes for a great weekend getaway; what do you think?🏆🧭
