Beautiful mountain landscapes, rivers and rocks on the Cedeño - Poza Remolino trail (Eng - Esp)
Happy start to the week, nature-loving friends! It's a pleasure to greet you and share a new adventure in the town of Cedeño, located on the Cumaná-Cumanacoa national highway. This time, our route takes us to Poza Remolino. The path to this pool is somewhat demanding, as it includes a mountainous section, large rocks, and several stream crossings. During this dry season, these streams have little water and many stones. In fact, because I wasn't wearing shoes and didn't heed my friend's advice, my feet ended up a bit bruised from the stones. The flip-flops I wore weren't thick enough to cushion the impact of the rocks; some were sharp, and the branches along the path pricked me. Even with this minor inconvenience, I was able to continue the route to Poza Remolino. On previous trips, we reached Poza Arcilla, which is very beautiful, with crystal-clear water. It's believed that enchanted beings, also known as elves, guardians of nature, inhabit this place. They live hidden in the holes of the rocks. After this pool, there is a trail of more than an hour's walk to reach Poza Remolino (Whirlpool Pool). The name comes from the speed at which the water moves, forming small whirlpools. On our way, we encounter several concrete walls, known as the mountain wall. These walls were built to prevent water from reaching the residential area when the river rises. According to a resident, the river rises several meters and can cover a large part of the lower and middle areas of the mountain. Therefore, these walls were built to protect the population from these floods and also to maintain a path for them to move around.
Feliz inicio de semana amigos amantes de la naturaleza, es un placer saludarles y compartir una nueva aventura en la población de Cedeño, ubicada en la carretera nacional Cumaná - Cumanacoa, en esta ocasión el recorrido nos llevará a Poza Remolino, el camino hacia esta poza es un tanto exigente, pues tiene una parte montañosa, grandes rocas, además hay que cruzar varios riachuelos, los cuales en esta temporada de sequía tienen poca agua y muchas piedras, de hecho por no llevar zapatos y no hacer caso a las orientaciones de mi amiga terminé con los pies un poco aporreados por las piedras, las chancletas que usé no eran lo suficientemente gruesas, para amortiguar el grosor de las piedras, algunas eran puntiagudas y las ramas que habían en el camino, me pincharon, aún con este pequeño inconveniente, pude continuar la ruta hasta poza remolino, en recorridos anteriores llegamos hasta Poza Arcilla que por cierto es muy bonita, con el agua cristalina y se cree que en ese lugar hay encantados también conocidos como los duendes, que son guardianes de la naturaleza, el río río y viven ocultos en los orificios de las rocas, luego de esta poza hay un sendero de más de una hora caminando para llegar hasta Poza remolino, el nombre obedece a la velocidad con la que el agua se mueve formando un pequeños remolinos, en nuestro camino nos encontramos con varios muros de concreto, que son conocidos como la muralla de la montaña, estos muros se construyeron para evitar el paso del agua hasta la zona residencial cuando el río crece, de acuerdo a la información de un residente el río aumenta varios metros y puede cubrir gran parte de la zona baja y media de la montaña, por ello se construyeron estos muros para proteger a la población de estas crecidas y también mantener un camino por el cual se puedan trasladar.
During the journey to the pool, as I mentioned before, several streams can be seen, some with a more abundant flow than others, rocks on the sides, herbaceous vegetation covering the mountain, shrubs and trees around the river. Among the plant species I was able to identify are the coconut palm Cocos nucifera and the Ceiba Ceiba speciosa. The latter stands out for being a tree with leafy branches and a thick trunk. The coconut palm, for its part, has a tall stem and the leaves and fruits are located at the back. They are one of the plants that identify the tropical region; As we progressed, we had to climb several sections of the mountain. Near the pool, we saw another part of the wall and several flowering plants surrounding it. This view was quite beautiful, offering a panorama of the mountain on one side and the flowering plants adorning the landscape on the other. Next, we crossed a small stream where numerous rocks and a trickle of water were visible. The rocks had different shapes and colors and were sometimes used for washing, taking advantage of the water flowing down from the mountain.
Durante el trayecto hacia la poza, como lo mencioné anteriormente, se observan varios riachuelos, algunos de ellos con el caudal más abundante que otros varias, rocas a los lados, vegetación herbácea que cubre la montaña, arbustos y árboles alrededor del río, entre las especies vegetales pude identificar se encuentra la palma de Coco Cocos nucifera y la Ceiba Ceiba speciosa, esta última destaca por ser un árbol de ramas frondosas y tronco grueso, la palma de Coco, por su parte, es de tallo alto y las hojas y frutos se ubican en la parte posterior, son una de las plantas que identifican a la región tropical; a medida que avanzábamos debíamos subir varias zonas de la montaña, ya cerca de la poza se observa otra parte del muro y varias plantas florales alrededor, esta vista es muy bonita pues se aprecia una un área de la montaña y en la otra plantas florales que adornan el lugar, a continuación el paso de un riachuelo donde se observan numerosas rocas y un pequeño flujo de agua, las rocas tienen diferentes formas y colores y en ocasiones son usadas para lavar y aprovechar el flujo de agua que desciende desde la montaña.
Continuing on, we encountered other, drier rivers where the water was stagnant. The flow was so small that it didn't run, pooling among the rocks in small puddles. We then came to other river crossings where, in addition to the rocks and water, we saw rock walls, roots, and clay along the riverbanks. The rock formations had curious shapes, holes, and varied shades of brown and reddish hues. There were paths along these walls that led directly to the river, but this was a bit risky for those unfamiliar with the area. Therefore, we decided to take the main path, which, although it took longer, was safer. Since there were several children in the group, it was the best option to continue without incident. These shortcuts led us from the path to the rocks, and from there, you could dive into the river. It was impressive how the local children were experts at jumping into the river from the rocks to swim and bathe.
On several occasions we were scared because we didn't see them walking, we only heard the sound when they fell into the river and the movement of the water, some very small ones showed great swimming skills, what impressed me on this tour besides the incredible view of the mountain, were the large rocks and their tunnel-like holes, these add a touch of mystery to the tour, even the inhabitants of the area believe that they are the home of guardian spirits, there is also the belief that they hide secret passages to the heart of the mountain, which only the ancestors managed to know; The hike is truly beautiful with great views of the surroundings. As you climb, you can see the different sections of the river, surrounded by vegetation and rocks. The water has a striking crystal-clear green color and is cold, ideal for hot days. A few meters from the pool, we stopped to hydrate and eat, and some members of the group took the opportunity to rest, as the constant inclines of the path and the intense rays of the sun are exhausting. After a short break, we resumed the route, and here things got a little more complicated. The path is narrow and has several rocks. One by one, we crossed the narrow section until we reached a wider path and picked up the pace. The path seemed endless to me; perhaps the anxiety to reach the pool made it seem like we were moving slowly. When we arrived, I said: Eureka! The place is beautiful with amazing views of the mountains. The children and the rest of the group left their bags on the nearby rocks and went straight to the river to enjoy a refreshing swim after a long hike.
Avanzando, nos encontramos con otros ríos que están más secos y en ellos se observa el agua estancada, el flujo de agua es tan pequeño que esta no corre y se queda entre la rocas formando pequeños charcos, seguidamente otros cruces de ríos, en los cuales además de las rocas y el agua se observan paredes de roca, raíces y arcilla por los bordes del río, las formaciones rocosas tienen formas curiosas, orificios y variadas tonalidades de color marrón y rojizo, en estas paredes hay caminos que conducen directamente al río, pero un poco arriesgado, para quienes no conocen la zona, por ello decidimos hacer el recorrido por el camino principal, que aunque toma más tiempo, es seguro y como iban varios niños en el grupo, es la mejor opción para continuar sin contratiempo, estos atajos te llevan desde el camino hasta las rocas y desde allí puedes hacer un clavado en el río, es impresionante como los niños que viven allí son expertos en lanzarse al río desde las rocas, para nadar y bañarse.
En varias ocasiones nos asustamos porque no los veíamos caminar, solo escuchábamos el sonido cuando caían al río y el movimiento del agua, algunos muy pequeños demostraban grandes habilidades para nadar, lo que me impresionó en este recorrido además de la increíble vista de la montaña, fueron las grandes rocas y sus orificios similares a un túnel, estos agregan un toque de misterio al recorrido, incluso los habitantes de la zona creen que son el hogar de espíritus guardianes, hay también la creencia de que ellos esconden pasadizos secretos hacia el corazón de la montaña, que solo los ancestros lograron conocer; el recorrido es realmente hermoso y con grandes vistas del entorno, mientras subes puedes ver los diferentes tramos del río, rodeados de vegetación y rocas, el agua tiene un llamativo color verde cristalino y es fría, ideal para los días calurosos, a pocos metros de la poza hicimos una parada para hidratarnos, comer y algunos miembros del grupo aprovecharon para descansar, pues las constantes pendientes del camino y los rayos intensos del sol, son agotadoras, tras un breve descanso retomamos la ruta y aquí se complicó un poco, el sendero es estrecho y con varias rocas, uno por uno pasamos el tramo angosto, hasta llegar a un camino más ancho y acelerar el ritmo, el camino me parecía interminable, tal vez la ansiedad por llegar a la poza, daba la impresión de avanzar lentamente, al llegar dije: Eureka!! el lugar es hermoso y con sorprendentes vistas de la montaña, los niños y el resto del grupo, dejamos los bolsos en las rocas cercanas y fuimos directamente al río, para disfrutar un refrescante baño, tras una larga caminata.

Muy relajante y más en estos días de calor, el sendero ofrece hermosos paisajes y varios ríos, espero ir en la temporada de lluvia, debe ser una vista diferente y todo el campo verde, el camino tiene varias pendientes ideales para los aventureros y amantes de la naturaleza, disfruto visitar zonas así.
