Wingin’ It on the road - my #introduceyourself

Hello Hive! I am here for the second time, after a long hiatus and some lost keys.

Well, hopefully they still exist somewhere. In fact I’m confident they do. But where I think they might be- well, I won’t be in that area for months and months, if not years. So, I decided to bite the bullet and make a new account.

I am a 33 year old man living in a 32 year old van. This is a very recent development for me, and somewhat unplanned(yet long desired). About a year ago I lost someone extremely important to me, and, well, let’s just say I put myself through it for much of the last year. I spent some time back where I grew up, some 3000 miles away from where I had been living, to try and get my mental health together. Six(ish) weeks ago, I drove across the USA back to my apartment, moved most of my belongings into a storage unit, and decided to just set off living in my car.

The car proved to be too small. Especially because right before completely moving out of my apartment, I managed to break some ribs. Climbing in and out of a wagon all the time is horrible with broken ribs, to no one’s surprise. For years and years I had dreamed of buying a van or mini bus, and I spontaneously decided now was the time. So in a matter of 24 hours, I had shifted “homes” entirely after a lucky OfferUp encounter.

So here I am. About a week into living in my 1994 Chevy G20. I am in love with it. I have a lot of work to do on it, a lot of work to do on myself, and a lot of uncertainty in my future. Which is a good thing. I have desperately needed a change of scenery for a long time and I have never really figured out what that change needed to be. So now, I’m just winging it, and seeing where life takes me.

I’m currently in the Pacific Northwest, Oregon to be specific, and plan on spending some time around here for the next month or so. I am currently injured, so my physical abilities are limited, but as I heal I expect to be posting more and more random outdoor activities such as snowboarding, hiking, climbing, skateboarding, biking, backpacking etc. This is a healing journey for me, so I also expect to ramble on about my mental health quite a bit here and there, hopefully in a positive and encouraging manner.

If you guys would like to follow me along my journey, I would love to connect with some people on here! I have no plan- it could end up wonderfully, it could end in disaster.. who knows. But none of us are making it out of this life alive, and I’m not getting any younger, so I’m choosing uncertainty and adventure while I still can.

I hope you all found something to make you happy today. It could be anything, big or small, as long as it’s not harmful to others, it’s your world. Remember that. Happy Hiving folks.

Your post really stuck with me, especially the part about losing your keys, breaking your ribs, and then still making a total life pivot into a 1994 Chevy G20 after that lucky OfferUp find. It sounds like you’re stepping into a much-needed reset, and I’m glad Hive can be part of that new chapter. If you feel like documenting the van build or the ups and downs of this nomad life, hivepro.ai could help you turn those thoughts into polished posts, and hivestats.io is handy for watching your account grow along the way. What’s the first thing you want to fix or add to the van to make it feel more like home?
