Vegetables...but no salad
A little while ago I took a drive to one of my favourite plant nurseries a little out of the city because I'm in the process of preparing for a new plant-out of my vegetable garden; despite having an idea on what will work and what I want to plant I like to review my options. It's a legit plant nursery, very large with indoor and outdoor areas, gift and homewares shops and a cafe that serves pretty good food and coffee. There's a lot to like and it seemed like a brilliant fucken idea to go there.
I gathered up my girl-person who was just as keen to go there and off we went...the plan was to get something to eat (it was lunch time) and then we'd get down to business. But...the fucken cafe was closed, allegedly due to staff shortages, which seemed odd. They can't get anyone to operate it? Ok, so I was officially annoyed as I had my stomach set on the Cajun spicy grilled chicken salad and...well, I got fuck all. Ok then, I shifted my mind into adapt and overcome mode - not really, I was still thinking about that salad I never got - and moved on to start browsing the plants and seeds.
Above is one section of the seed-wall which was slightly taller than I am (I'm 6 foot tall) and ran for about ten metres in length. It wasn't all vegetables of course, but that's where I was focused.
I did my due diligence reading the packages and determining what I wanted and what would work in the garden bed space I have available and slipped a few of those little packets into my hand basket plus took note of some others for down the track. We moved on to look at some other plants and nutrient options that we need and I made an extreme effort to dissuade myself from buying a fountain which I've wanted for a long time. I was successful and walked out fountainless but with my vegetable seeds and some assorted nutrients.
I'm currently working on the garden beds preparing them for planting and may do a post or two as things progress, or not, and yeah I'm over the fact I didn't get that legit salad, but only barely.
So what's up y'all, how's your garden going at the moment and if you don't have one just yet what do you reckon you'd plant in your vegetable garden if you did have one? Feel free to comment if you'd like.

Cherries, apples, pears and strawberries are blooming in my garden now. Yesterday I picked sorrel and parsley, the tasty and juicy first greens of the year.
Pretty awesome stuff, how good is it eating food one has grown oneself!

I imagine that hoping to eat legitimate food you couldn't because there are no people working... it's outrageous. But I liked the second picture where I can enlarge it and see the different seeds.
I don't have a garden right now, but I would plant a bit of everything I like: tomatoes, many variants, lettuce, spinach, carrots, peppers, especially red peppers, pumpkin and other types of squash, I love them, aubergines. Ahh and I would have a lot of fruit trees, especially citrus. I would love to see pictures of the process of your garden!
I reckon we should all plant money trees because it's going to be in short supply, or mountains of it will be required to buy stuff due to inflation like back in the Great Depression.
I think so... you made me remember that the president here says on the one hand that everything will be digital... i.e. no more physical money and on the other hand that you have to have physical money in case something happens... he can't agree... I think I'll plant those trees!

I'm lucky to have a small garden where I grow: tomatoes, lettuce, courgettes, aubergines, peppers, onions and beans. For most of the year this makes me independent and I'm very happy that I do not have to buy vegetables at the supermarket! If I had more space, it would be nice to plant fruit trees too 😍
That's a nice selection you have there and its great that it provides most of what you need. I have a fair amount of room so have fruit trees and all but even without I think your garden will bring great value and enjoyment for you as it does me.
I've also found that people who grow plants are usually kinder and more pleasant 🤣 I don't know if it's a coincidence!

That is an impressive selection of seeds! I am sorry you didn't get your salad though, I know how disappointing it can be to have your mind set on something only to have it snatched away from you! My garden is a hot mess right now. I kind of gave up on it since my wife and I travel so much in the summer. It was just impossible to keep it in order. I might try to do a tomato plant again one day.
Good luck for your tomato plant when one day comes around. Let's hope you get a decent tomato out of it.

Where I live at the moment I don't have any piece of land available for planting, although on the terrace of the house my wife and I have some medicinal plants such as aloe vera, mint and others that are used to make tea.
When I lived in a rural area and had the possibility I always planted short cycle products such as lettuce, tomato and spices for food such as onion, garlic and cilantro. And I saved a lot of money by not having to buy.
I would like to know, if you can, if you managed to please your mind and stomach and were able to eat the chicken salad elsewhere or did you make it at home.

I grow vegetables and fruits for the enjoyment it brings me and for the produce as well although I don't get enough to completely meet my needs so still have to busy some; it's rewarding to grow some though and I think you understand because you grow also.
I ended up going to the pub for lunch that day but didn't get a salad, I ended up with a burger...which was pretty tasty!

Wow, I could lose myself in that nursery for hours :) How dare that cafe be closed..what nerve...they really shouldn't come between a man and his stomach!
My gardening is coming to a close, for the most part. For summer I have perennial herbs and a few flowers going, and one straggly tomato plant that is nearly finished. Sweet potatoes, pigeon peas, pineapple and passionfruit are perennials that are going and of course, I have some pretty peaches working their way to ready.
I guess gardens go through their good and ba times, I know mine does. I think the main thing is to enjoy what's there and the process of it and be content with that. At least you've got something happening to keep you busy, as if you've got nothing else to do.
In the past, I have grown a small vegetable garden in my backyard. I had lettuce, peppers, radishes, cabbage... besides providing fresh and cheap produce, I enjoyed the process of sowing a seed, watching it germinate, grow and bear fruit. Slugs became my enemy. I waged war to the death against them. But they proved to be strong opponents.
In the future, I may take up the project again. Vegetables are becoming more and more expensive, and without them a meal is not complete. I would like to find a store with such a variety of seeds.

I think vegetables and less processed foods are important to a person's health, along with exercise. Hopefully you get you garden in sooner than later and I think you'll feel good about it when you do.
Australia is incredibly multicultural and so everything is available here which is kind of nice right? I don't personally eat okra, but have in the past a time or two. Not my favourite thing.
Okra arrived in my country with the culinary culture of the slaves brought from Africa. It is mainly added to preparations with meat or minced meat, where it provides a very peculiar texture and flavor.
I like it very much, my mother-in-law usually prepares it. 🤤

My grandparents used to have a garden for plants, tomatoes were never missing, then zucchini (you can fry the flowers, very good), beans, strawberries and some salad
Parsnips they're called, pretty tasty.
