Rose Hips and Lacey Carrot Tips

The fall garden is coming along, as is the garden area restoration project. Now that my knees are somewhat functional again, I have been out in the garden enclosure every day doing a bit of work. One thing I am working on is cutting back the raspberry suckers and attaining some order in that chaos of a patch. It's starting to look nice.

Yesterday, I seeded some bok choi, more radishes and lettuce, and gave everything a nice, thorough drink. It's a bit warm this week, but I know it's gonna cool off here in the mountains quickly. It's September next week, the nights are getting shorter, and it could really freeze anytime so I'm not too worried about planting crops that like the cooler temps.

I also renovated the end corner of the enclosure, put down cardboard and stacked a ton of plant debris so that section will be ready for the two honeyberry and two bush cherry plants that will be arriving in September.

The carrots were thinned a few days ago by yours truly, and I am beyond pleased with how they are growing. I got near perfect germination utilizing burlap on top of the seeds, it's far better that the other patch I tried germinating the other way.

The cilantro is really going to town too, and yes, I take little samples of that to snack on, along with baby lettuce leaves, and I even snacked on the little radish thinnings. I love that smack to the taste buds spiciness of baby radishes!

Something that also caught my eye this morning are the rose hips in the enclosure along the house, they are HUGE! I think the variety is an old fashioned Rugosa type. Next year I should be here when they bloom and then I will identify them for sure.

I also spent some time deadheading the long marigold boxes in front of my house, the orange blooms are just so cheery and an added bonus is that they are not tasty to the gazillion deer we have meandering about the place. All of the dead blooms I have drying underneath the box for next year's crop.

Coming into this place mid summer has left me without a rather large chunk of information about the growing season here, when things, bloom, etc. But instead of getting a frazzled about it, I am instead just going with the flow. I have a LOT on my plate right now, school, multiple trips, family member loss, a complete change of life and pattern, and I am finding it's best to just meander along without stressing about things too much.

Guess the plants aren't the only thing that's growing.
