Traveling to Caracas means immersing yourself in a city that beats to a completely different rhythm. Here, the hours seem to pass at breakneck speed; everyone is in a hurry and, in general terms, life seems to flow at a much faster pace. Formation: I tried to maintain a more leisurely pace; without realizing it, we become infected by this much more hectic life, where everything seems to flow without stopping and where we gradually discover that there really isn't enough time to fully get to know the features of this beautiful city.

Viajar a Caracas es sumergirse dentro de una ciudad que late a un ritmo totalmente diferente. Acá las horas parecieran transcurrir a una velocidad trepidante; todo el mundo anda apurado y, en términos generales, la vida pareciera fluir de una forma mucho más acelerada. Formación: Intenté mantener un ritmo más pausado; sin darnos cuenta, nos vamos contagiando de esta vida mucho más agitada, en donde todo pareciera fluir sin detenerse y en donde poco a poco vamos descubriendo que realmente el tiempo se queda corto para conocer por completo los rasgos de esta bella ciudad.

Caracas is a capital city where public spaces abound, but incredibly it is also a city whose geography is dotted with numerous Catholic churches. Perhaps this is a feature inherited from the colonial past, but we must also recognize that despite some changes in recent years, Venezuelan society remains deeply Catholic. That is why every church built in honor of a saint or virgin always seeks to become a space characterized by artistic richness and, in some cases, architectural grandeur.

Caracas es una capital en donde abundan los espacios públicos, pero increíblemente también es una ciudad en cuya geografía podemos encontrar numerosos templos católicos, quizás este es un rasgo heredado del pasado colonial, pero también debemos reconocer que a pesar de algunos cambios sufridos en los últimos años la sociedad venezolana sigue siendo profundamente católica, es por ello que cada iglesia levantada en honor a algún santo o virgen, siempre busca convertirse en un espacio caracterizado por la riqueza artística y en algunas oportunidades la grandeza arquitectónica.

As you know, I come from a small Andean town, and this is a region where Catholic churches stand out for their magnificence and perfection. That's why when I encounter similar features so many miles from my homeland, I feel truly intrigued to discover every corner of such a spectacular place. Thanks to a fortuitous combination of events, I arrived at the foot of the church of La Divina Pastora, located in the parish of La Pastora in the central-western part of the city. We could say that this is a popular area where houses built on the mountain abound and where we can find a religious treasure of inestimable value.

Como ustedes saben, yo provengo de una pequeña ciudad andina y esta es una región en donde los templos católicos se destacan por su magnificencia y perfección; es por ello que cuando me encuentro con características similares a tantos kilómetros de mi tierra natal, me siento realmente intrigado por descubrir cada rincón de tan espectacular lugar. Gracias a una combinación fortuita de acontecimientos, llegué hasta los pies de la iglesia de La Divina Pastora, la cual se encuentra ubicada en la parroquia La Pastora del centro oeste de la ciudad. Podríamos decir que se trata de una zona popular en donde abundan las casas construidas sobre la montaña y en donde podemos encontrar un tesoro religioso de características invaluables.

At first glance, I found a church of great magnitude, where the facade was the perfect prelude to an architecture that was undoubtedly strongly influenced by the neoclassical style. This is how we can enjoy an excellent colonnade, an impeccable cornice, and two towers that are perfectly and subtly crowned by interesting silver domes, nuanced by a layer of color that gives it a lively and radiant appearance.

A primera vista me encontré con una iglesia de grandes magnitudes, en donde la fachada era el preludio perfecto de una arquitectura que sin duda alguna estaba fuertemente influenciada por el estilo neoclásico. Es así como podemos disfrutar de una excelente columnata, una impecable cornisa y dos torres que se encuentran perfecta y sutilmente coronadas por interesantes cúpulas plateadas, matizadas por una capa de color que le da un aspecto vivo y radiante.

Upon crossing the wooden doors, I found myself in a radiant central nave, perfectly illuminated by large chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. Thanks to the immaculate white color of the walls, the interior spaces invite purity, contemplation, and worship of God.

Al cruzar las puertas de madera, me encontré con una nave central totalmente radiante y perfectamente iluminada por grandes candelabros que colgaban del techo, los cuales, gracias al color impecablemente blanco de las paredes, permitían disfrutar de unos espacios interiores que invitan a la pureza, el recogimiento y la adoración a Dios.

The interior of the church features a series of pillars painted white with gold accents, which support semicircular arches and a gabled wooden ceiling, which I must say is in perfect condition and creates a truly magical visual contrast.

El interior de la iglesia cuenta con una serie de pilares pintados de blanco y con toques dorados, los cuales sostienen arcos de medio punto y sobre ellos descansa un techo machimbrado de madera a dos aguas, el cual debo decir que se encuentra en perfectas condiciones y genera un contraste visual realmente mágico.

As in most Catholic churches, this one has some very interesting artistic displays, among which we can highlight various paintings and several frescoes painted on the ceiling vaults, which transport us to a parallel universe, where for a few seconds we can dream of the greatness and virtues that lie hidden in heaven.

Como en la mayoría de los templos católicos, este cuenta con muy interesantes muestras artísticas, dentro de las cuales podemos destacar diversos cuadros y varios frescos pintados sobre las bóvedas del techo, lo cual nos transporta hacia un universo paralelo, en donde por unos segundos podemos soñar con la grandeza y las virtudes que se esconden en el cielo.

La Divina Pastora is a Marian devotion with strong roots in this Venezuelan land. Coincidentally, her liturgical feast day is celebrated this month, which is why my visit to this place was more than appropriate, as the Virgin was dressed in her finest, surrounded by flowers and posing serenely in front of the altar, with the sweet gaze of a mother fervently awaiting her children.

La Divina Pastora es una advocación mariana con fuerte arraigo en esta tierra venezolana; casualmente, durante este mes se celebra su fiesta litúrgica y es por esta razón que mi visita a este lugar fue más que apropiada, ya que la virgen vestía sus mejores galas, estaba rodeada de flores y posaba serena frente al altar, con la mirada dulce de una madre que espera fervorosamente a sus hijos.

On this and previous trips, I have had the opportunity to visit various religious temples in this beautiful city, but I must admit that this one has stolen my heart, as it combines simplicity with grandeur, hope with dreams, faith and prayer. It doesn't matter if we profess another religion or believe in a mystery different from the one that surrounds this place; the truth is that this space is marked by tranquility, inclusion, and peace.

En este y en viajes anteriores he tenido la oportunidad de conocer diversos templos religiosos en esta bella ciudad, pero debo admitir que este se ha robado mi corazón, ya que en él se mezcla la sencillez con la grandeza, la esperanza con los sueños, la fe y la oración. No importa si profesamos otra religión o creemos en un misterio distinto al que cubre este lugar; lo cierto es que este espacio está marcado por la tranquilidad, la inclusión y la paz.

I say it today, and I will never tire of repeating it: Caracas is a city marked by hidden treasures, places that could easily become tourist attractions par excellence, but for some strange reason remain hidden from view. Despite the difficulties the country is going through, I am pleased to find perfectly preserved spaces, where a sense of belonging and the desire to continue building beautiful things shine through.

Lo digo hoy y no me cansaré de repetirlo: Caracas es una ciudad marcada por tesoros ocultos, lugares que perfectamente pudieran convertirse en espacios turísticos por excelencia, pero que por alguna extraña razón se mantienen ocultos ante la mirada de todos. A pesar de las dificultades que atraviesa el país, me es grato encontrarme con espacios perfectamente conservados, en donde brilla el sentido de pertenencia y las ganas de seguir construyendo cosas bonitas.

This church is full of details; everywhere I looked, I found perfect carvings, impeccable paintings, and furniture that matches its surroundings. I am pleased to discover that here one can walk around freely, photographing every space and feeling firsthand the sensations that emanate from this sacred place. Perhaps when I arrived here I thought I was facing just another temple, but when I turned around and returned to the city, I realized that this is a truly special place.

Esta iglesia está llena de detalles; a cualquier lado en donde pude mirar me encontraba con tallados perfectos, pinturas impecables y un mobiliario que hace juego con todo su entorno. Me es grato descubrir que acá uno puede caminar con total libertad, fotografiando cada espacio y sintiendo en carne propia las sensaciones que emanan de este espacio sagrado. Quizás cuando llegué acá pensé que estaba frente a un templo más, pero al momento de dar la vuelta y regresar a la ciudad, me di cuenta de que este es un lugar verdaderamente especial.

I must confess that before leaving, I said a prayer to heaven, asking for world peace, stability for my country, and a future filled with people who are much more tolerant, loving, and patient. I hope that this temple continues to be a ray of hope for those hearts that find themselves in darkness, and I highly recommend that, when you visit this beautiful city, you take a few hours to discover the details hidden inside the Church of the Divine Shepherdess.

Debo confesarles que antes de irme elevé una oración al cielo, pidiendo por la paz del mundo, la estabilidad de mi país y que el futuro venga cargado con personas de un pensamiento mucho más tolerante, amoroso y paciente. Espero que este templo siga siendo un rayo de esperanza para aquellos corazones que se encuentran en medio de la oscuridad y les recomiendo plenamente que, cuando pasen por esta bella ciudad, se tomen unas horas para descubrir los detalles que se esconden dentro de la Iglesia de la Divina Pastora.
