A Trip on Christmas Eve / Un Viaje en Visperas de Navidad

Caracas is a city where, without realizing it, I gathered many stories. I must confess that it was my home years ago, but it was a somewhat gray period of my life because, despite having been welcomed into this beautiful capital, at that time I did not get to know it, much less understand it. At that time, I was young and inexperienced and had an unrelenting work schedule that left me little time for leisure and distraction. As a result, this city that welcomed me with open arms remained almost entirely unknown to me. Upon returning to my Andean homeland, I always remembered the streets, squares, and avenues of the Venezuelan capital with nostalgia, holding in my mind and heart the hope of one day being able to revisit those places as a tourist, getting to know its corners and discovering its secrets.

Caracas es una ciudad en la cual, sin darme cuenta, cosechaba muchas historias. Debo confesarles que fue mi hogar hace años atrás, pero se trató de un pasaje de mi vida un tanto gris, ya que, a pesar de haber recibido en esta bella capital, en ese momento no la llegué a conocer y mucho menos a entender. Para ese momento yo era joven e inexperto y contaba con un ritmo laboral indetenible, el cual apenas me dejaba tiempo para el ocio y la distracción. Por lo cual esta ciudad que me recibió con los brazos abiertos siguió siendo desconocida casi en su totalidad. Al regresar a mis tierras andinas, siempre recordé con nostalgia a las calles, plazas y avenidas de la capital venezolana, teniendo en mi mente y corazón la esperanza de algún día poder volver a recorrer esos espacios desde el punto de vista turístico, conociendo sus rincones y descubriendo sus secretos.

For the past couple of years, every December I have had the opportunity to visit this city, and at the end of 2025, that story repeated itself. With my heart full of excitement and the enthusiasm of a small child, I boarded a CONVIASA flight from Francisco Javier García Airport (my city's airport) to Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, which is considered the gateway not only to the city of Caracas but to all of Venezuela.

Desde hace un par de años, cada diciembre he tenido la oportunidad de visitar esta ciudad y, para finales del pasado 2025, esa historia se volvió a repetir. Con el corazón lleno de emoción y con la ilusión de un niño pequeño, abordé un vuelo de CONVIASA desde el Aeropuerto Francisco Javier García (el aeródromo de mi ciudad) con destino al Aeropuerto Internacional Simón Bolívar en Maiquetía, el cual se considera como la puerta de entrada no solo a la ciudad de Caracas, sino a toda Venezuela.

I found myself in a city full of colors, where the joy of Christmas is totally contagious; the streets were crowded with people and the economic activity of this time of year was evident, perhaps contrasting a little with the reality of my hometown, but undoubtedly setting the pace of a capital city that is definitely unstoppable.

Me encontré con una ciudad llena de colores, en donde la alegría de la Navidad es totalmente contagiosa; las calles se encontraban abarrotadas de personas y el movimiento económico de esta época del año era evidente, quizás contrastando un poco con la realidad de mi ciudad de origen, pero sin duda alguna marcando el ritmo de una capital que definitivamente es indetenible.

Despite the difficulties, Caracas exudes peace, joy, and a widespread sense of resilience and strength in the face of adversity, where each individual always strives for self-improvement, success, and prosperity.

A pesar de las dificultades, en Caracas se respira paz, mucha alegría y un sentimiento generalizado de resiliencia y fortaleza ante las adversidades, en donde cada individuo siempre busca la superación personal, el éxito y la prosperidad.

Every corner of the city is filled with colors, lights, and large decorations, where yellow seems to be the undisputed trend, giving us lots of brightness and perfect harmony. From the subway stations to the main squares, we find interesting Christmas trees, various nativity scenes, and some backdrops; the red and green typical of this time of year are also present in the decorations and contrasts, thus creating a combination of avant-garde elements and more traditional spaces.

Cada rincón de la ciudad se encuentra lleno de colores, muchas luces y grandes decoraciones, en donde el color amarillo parece marcar una tendencia indiscutible, regalándonos mucho brillo y perfecta armonía. Desde las estaciones del metro hasta las plazas principales encontramos interesantes árboles de Navidad, diversos pesebres y algunas bambalinas; el rojo y el verde típicos de esta época del año también dicen presente dentro de las decoraciones y contrastes, generando así una combinación entre elementos vanguardistas y espacios más tradicionales.

As is customary, Plaza Bolívar in Caracas is the epicenter of the capital's Christmas festivities; it is here where we find trees covered in lights, Christmas carols, and overflowing joy on every corner. This place is the perfect meeting point for families, couples, and friends who want to enjoy the December atmosphere to the rhythm of the city, always in a completely safe environment and with slightly cooler temperatures, which are perfect for affectionate hugs and charming encounters.

Como lo marca la costumbre, la Plaza Bolívar de Caracas es el epicentro de la movida navideña capitalina; es acá en donde encontramos árboles revestidos de luces, canciones navideñas y alegría desbordada en cada esquina. Este lugar es el punto de encuentro perfecto para familiares, parejas y amigos, quienes buscan disfrutar de un ambiente decembrino al ritmo de la ciudad, siempre bajo un entorno totalmente seguro y con la caricia de unas temperaturas un tanto bajas, las cuales constituyen el entorno perfecto para los abrazos afectuosos y los acercamientos encantadores.

This is a city that never ceases to amaze, as each season brings different decorations and somewhat adventurous combinations, but with incredible results. Caracas does not drag repetitive elements with it, but is one of those cities that always seeks to set trends, innovating facets and rewriting its history.

Esta es una ciudad que nunca deja de sorprender, puesto que en cada temporada podemos encontrar adornos diferentes, combinaciones un tanto aventureras, pero con resultados increíbles. Caracas no arrastra consigo elementos repetitivos, sino que es una de esas ciudades que busca siempre marcar pautas, innovando facetas y reescribiendo su historia.

It doesn't matter if we walk in company or chase our own shadow; this city always welcomes us with open arms and its people continue to make us feel at home. When we sit down in any square, we can find good conversation, pleasant moments, and spontaneous laughter. That's why I'm not afraid at all to get to know this city completely, and that's why every trip I take is a unique and different experience, where emotions are lived to the fullest, hopes remain alive, and experiences are sown, so that we can reap unforgettable memories.

No importa si caminamos en compañía de alguien o lo hacemos persiguiendo a nuestra propia sombra; esta ciudad siempre nos recibe con los brazos abiertos y su pueblo sigue transmitiendo que nos permite sentirnos como en casa. Al sentarnos en cualquier plaza, podremos encontrar una buena conversación, momentos agradables y risas espontáneas; es así como no me da miedo en lo absoluto conocer por completo a esta ciudad y es de esta forma como se explica que cada viaje realizado es una experiencia única y diferente, en donde las emociones se viven al máximo, las ilusiones permanecen vivas y las experiencias son sembradas, para por exteriormente cosechar recuerdos inolvidables.
