This is Somirnagar Bazar, the market of my village. It is in Narayanganj, in Dhaka Division, Bangladesh, near Samir Nagar and Char Radhanagar. It is not a big or famous market. It is a small village market, but for the people here, it is everything.
On Google Maps, it has 4.5 stars from 29 reviews, and the reviews say the same thing: this is a helpful market for the village people. You can buy your daily things here. The small grocery and general stores have shelves full of daily goods — rice, cooking oil, snacks, eggs, soap, and many small things you need every day. There are small shop fronts along dirt lanes, and shopkeepers sitting inside their shops, talking with the people who come.
The bazar opens in the morning at 7, and it stays busy through the day. But the real crowd comes in the evening. Between 6 and 8 in the evening, this place is at its busiest. People come after their work in the fields, buy what they need, drink tea, and meet each other. For a village, a bazar is not only for shopping. It is also where people meet and share news.
Around the bazar, you can see the village life. There are fields, and a river nearby where boats move. In the evening, the sunset over the fields is beautiful. One reviewer on the map wrote it simply: my village, so beautiful place. I agree with that.
The good thing about this bazar is that village people do not need to travel far for their daily needs. It saves their time and makes life easy. It has good communication with the surrounding villages, so people from nearby places also come here. It even has parking and a restroom, which is not common for a small village market.
If you ever visit a village in Bangladesh, visit a small bazar like this in the evening. You will understand the village better than any big city market can show you.
Do you also have a small bazar like this in your village? What is the first thing you buy when you go there?
