Esta vez les comparto mi recorrido por la Avenida Perimetral en el sector El Monumento, específicamente por el Monumento a los 500 Años. Su nombre hace referencia a una serie de esculturas ubicadas en esta área para conmemorar el 500 aniversario de la ciudad de Cumaná. El monumento consta de tres esculturas negras que representan el origen de la vida.
Según varias personas con las que hablé durante mi recorrido, estas figuras emergen de un tronco de árbol y son flores que simbolizan el origen de la vida. This time I'm sharing my tour of the Perimetral Avenue in the El Monumento sector, specifically the 500 Years Monument. Its name refers to a series of sculptures placed in this area to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the city of Cumaná. The monument consists of three black sculptures representing the origin of life.
According to several people I spoke with during my walk, these figures emerge from a tree trunk and are flowers symbolizing the origin of life. In the center are several posts that resemble branches, and from these, the figures emerge. To reach this area, you can take the Perimetral Avenue, or if you are in another part of the city, there are public transportation options that pass very close by. One stop is Marina Plaza, and another is in the Los Chaimas sector. Alternatively, you can take Fernández de Zerpa Avenue, which leads directly to the Monk and Indian Monument. A few meters away is the Cumaná 500 Years Monument. This recreational area features a sea viewpoint, space for exercise, and children's play areas. Pets also have their own space here, and in the afternoon, it's common to see them walking around and enjoying the sea breeze.
Las esculturas se ubican en el centro del bulevar, detrás del cual se alza el conocido monumento "El Monje y el Indio". La figura central es la más grande y descansa sobre una base o tubo de hierro negro. A la derecha, hay una base circular, luego otro tubo y, junto a ellos, dos figuras. The sculptures are located in the center of the Boulevard, behind which stands the well-known monument, "The Monk and the Indian." The central figure is the largest and rests on a black iron pipe or base. To the right, there is a circular base, then another pipe, and next to them, two figures. Above these is another figure with its hands outstretched upwards. To the left, the base is similar to the previous one but has only one sculpture on top. The wall supporting these sculptures is gray and consists of two steps: the side steps are circular, and the central one is rectangular.
The ground is generally painted with yellow and blue stripes, and in the background, the vast sea is visible. Looking closely, the central sculpture depicts two people clinging to a tree. The one at the top holds a cup in their hand. The central figure wears a crown made of branches and is standing, while the one on the left is seated, raising one arm. These sculptures create a beautiful landscape with the seascape and the sky above.
Al terminar la caminata, tomé el sendero que lleva a la oficina de Guardianes del Golfo. Allí, vi la pasarela, el muro de concreto que también sirve como mirador y una vista parcial de la playa. También pude ver la Avenida Cacique, la carretera perimetral y algunos árboles. Finishing the walk, I took the path that leads to the Guardians of the Gulf office. There, I saw the walkway, the concrete wall that also serves as a lookout point, and a partial view of the beach. I could also see Cacique Avenue, the perimeter road, and some trees. From another view, I saw the back of the monument and the beach with rock walkways, trees, and areas designated for recreation for adults and children.
The Cumaná 500 Years Monument and the nearby "I Love Cumaná" Monument are important meeting points for locals and residents. On weekends and in the evenings, large groups gather for physical activities, walks, and fun for children. Children can also enjoy riding bikes here. One of my favorite activities is observing the seascape from the lookout point and feeling the cool breeze.
