I invite you to join me for a tour of the Félix "Lalito" Velázquez Sports Complex, located on Avenida Cancamure in Cumaná. It is a sports facility with a striking design and an excellent location. At one of the entrances stands a sculpture of "Toñito"—a charming dolphin that served as the mascot for the 1995 National Sports Games held in Sucre. According to the plaque, the name "Toñito" honors the bicentennial of the birth of Antonio José de Sucre, which was celebrated on February 3rd of that same year. As a fond memento of those National Sports Games, this delightful dolphin rests beside the main entrance, having earned a very special place in the hearts of athletes from Sucre. He sits atop a blue wall, wearing a white t-shirt that bears his name.
His fins are blue, while his dorsal side is white. In the following photograph, you can see the upper part of his body—including his t-shirt and fins—as they meet the supporting wall, which is decorated with bubbles in various shades of blue. The name of the sports complex is displayed at the entrance, and the perimeter wall is adorned with several murals. The lettering is white, and the Venezuelan flag is featured in the center. In the background, you can see one of the basketball courts, with the athletics track located to the right. As shown in the next photo, there are several murals depicting the various sports practiced at this complex, such as boxing, basketball, and karate, among others. According to the information provided at the entrance, Toñito was restored in 2024—the year now displayed on his t-shirt. From this vantage point, you can also see part of the sports complex’s vertical structure and the lush vegetation surrounding the area.

Moving toward the running track, one can see the perimeter fence, several poles, trees, and signs adorning the wall. Next, there is a view of the avenue, the front of the multi-story sports complex, and the sculpture of "Toñito" gracing the entrance. This avenue features lush vegetation—including Neem, Ciba, Mango, and Ficus trees—which provide coolness and shade to this part of the city.
On the upper level of the sports complex, there are ramps where athletes perform resistance training and warm-up exercises; light poles and various trees are also visible. The following image shows the sports courts located next to the buildings, followed by a view of the bleachers and the walkways used for exercise and for navigating the oval-shaped grounds of the complex. After exploring the upper level, I headed toward the avenue, from where one can see the various courts situated beside the residential complex, along with trees lining the edge. This sports complex boasts a beautiful design and diverse spaces, well-suited for athletes or anyone wishing to enjoy a peaceful walk or outdoor exercise. On the day of my visit, a soccer championship was underway, and I had the chance to watch many young people playing at the "Feli Galito Velázquez" sports complex. Thank you for joining me on this adventure!

that dolphin mascot has such an interesting backstory tied to the 1995 games. It is pretty cool that they actually restored it recently so it still looks so vibrant at the entrance.
