Paseo por la "Cruz de Caigüire" en Cumaná [Esp-Eng]
En esta ocasión, les invito a acompañarme a visitar el sector de Caigüire, situado a lo largo de la carretera nacional Cumaná– Carúpano, el cual ofrece una hermosa vista hacia la playa. Esta zona brinda un paisaje impresionante a quienes entran o salen de la ciudad; la vista al mar resulta encantadora, complementada por la presencia de grandes edificaciones al otro lado de la carretera. Aquí también se encuentra la famosa «Cruz de Caigüire», un monumento religioso y cultural de gran significado para los pescadores y residentes de la localidad.
On this occasion, I invite you to join me in visiting the Caigüire sector, located along the Cumaná–Carúpano national highway, which offers a beautiful view of the beach. This area presents stunning scenery to those entering or leaving the city; the beach view is enchanting, complemented by the presence of large buildings on the opposite side of the highway. Also located here is the famous "Cruz de Caigüire" (Cross of Caigüire)—a religious and cultural monument deeply significant to the local fishermen and residents.
La cruz se alza sobre una base de hormigón, enmarcada por barandillas de madera y con el mar como telón de fondo. El entorno cuenta con manglares de tipo mangle botoncillo y singulares rocas blancas; el lugar funciona como una especie de altar donde tienen lugar celebraciones arraigadas en la fe de los habitantes. En tales ocasiones, la cruz es decorada y el área se acondiciona con bancos, caminerías de hormigón y espacio suficiente para que tanto visitantes como lugareños puedan presenciar las festividades. Desde este punto, también es posible divisar parte del cerro Pan de Azúcar, un accidente geográfico natural que se extiende a lo largo de varios kilómetros por la ciudad, abarcando diversos sectores. El monumento de la cruz está separado del mar por sencillas barandillas de madera, elaboradas de forma artesanal y pintadas de blanco y verde, situadas justo a lo largo de la orilla.
Se trata de una zona muy concurrida y, además, un punto importante para la distribución de pescado fresco. Visitar esta parte de la ciudad es siempre una experiencia grata, pues permite disfrutar de la brisa fresca y de los hermosos paisajes que ofrece este tramo costero de la urbe.
The cross stands on a concrete base, framed by wooden railings with the sea in the background. The surroundings feature buttonwood mangrove plants and unique white rocks; the site serves as a kind of altar where celebrations rooted in the residents' faith take place. For these occasions, the cross is decorated, and the area is equipped with benches, concrete walkways, and space for both visitors and locals to witness the festivities. From this spot, one can also see part of Cerro Pan de Azúcar—a natural landmark that spans several kilometers across the city, encompassing various sectors. The cross monument is separated from the sea by simple, handcrafted wooden railings painted white and green, positioned right along the shoreline.
It is a very busy area and also an important hub for the distribution of fresh fish. Visiting this part of the city is always a lovely experience, as it allows one to enjoy the fresh breeze and the beautiful landscapes offered by this coastal stretch of the city.
