Mi visita a la plaza Pedro Camejo, en el sector Caigüire (Esp / Eng)
En esta ocasión, comparto mi visita a la plaza Pedro Camejo, situada en la avenida Carúpano, en el sector de Caigüire, justo al lado del centro de alistamiento militar que lleva el mismo nombre. Pedro Camejo fue un soldado que luchó por la independencia de Venezuela bajo el mando de José Antonio Páez; se ganó el apodo de "Negro Primero" por su gran destreza con la lanza y por ser siempre uno de los primeros en dar un paso al frente para defender a su líder y atacar al enemigo.
La plaza cuenta con varias palmeras y senderos de concreto que conducen a distintas zonas; es un espacio donde las familias se reúnen y socializan, especialmente al caer la tarde, momento en el que yo la visité. Vi a muchas familias sentadas por la plaza, con niños jugando y disfrutando de la brisa fresca. Aunque había pasado por allí varias veces, no conocía el nombre de la plaza hasta que tuve la oportunidad de acercarme y leer la inscripción. La escultura es de color negro y el nombre aparece en una placa de granito negro en la base del muro; esta plaza es, además, uno de los puntos de referencia más importantes de la zona.
This time, I am sharing my visit to Pedro Camejo Plaza, located on Carúpano Avenue in the Caigüire district, right next to the military induction center that bears the same name. Pedro Camejo was a soldier who fought for Venezuela's independence under the command of José Antonio Páez; he earned the nickname "Negro Primero" (First Black) because he was highly skilled with the lance and was always among the first to step forward to defend his leader and attack the enemy.
The plaza features several palm trees and concrete walkways leading to various areas; it is a space where families gather and socialize, particularly in the late afternoon—which is when I visited. I saw many families sitting around the plaza, with children playing and enjoying the cool breeze. Although I had passed by the location several times, I hadn't actually known the plaza's name until I had the chance to get closer and read the inscription. The sculpture is black, and the name is displayed on a black granite slab at the base of the wall; this plaza is also one of the most important landmarks in the area.
