| After a quiet night at our pitch in Ettenheim, the day started slowly. I made coffee while my wife went to the bakery and brought back fresh rolls. Over breakfast, we thought about how to continue our short trip. Spontaneously, we decided to contact relatives nearby. Since we were already in the area. And indeed – they had time. So breakfast quickly turned into a second one, this time with coffee and cake. We didn’t stay long. Our next destination was Bad Krozingen. I knew the place from work, having been there several times. The heart center was something I remembered well – but I had never really seen the town itself. Bad Krozingen is a spa town, and the motorhome site is located right next to the thermal baths. In fact, there are two sites, separated by a main road. A bit confusing – at first it wasn’t clear if any spaces were available. Small signs in front of each pitch showed reservations, and the reception only opened later in the afternoon. | Nach einer ruhigen Nacht auf unserem Stellplatz in Ettenheim begann der Tag entspannt. Ich kochte Kaffee, meine Frau ging zum Bäcker und brachte frische Brötchen mit. Während wir frühstückten, überlegten wir, wie wir unsere kleine Tour fortsetzen wollten. Spontan kam uns der Gedanke, Verwandte in der Nähe zu kontaktieren. Wenn wir schon einmal hier sind. Und tatsächlich – sie hatten Zeit. So wurde aus dem Frühstück kurzerhand ein zweites, diesmal mit Kaffee und Kuchen. Lange blieben wir nicht. Unser nächstes Ziel war Bad Krozingen. Der Ort war mir vertraut, allerdings nur aus beruflichen Besuchen. Das Herzzentrum hatte ich in guter Erinnerung – die Stadt selbst kannte ich dagegen kaum. Bad Krozingen ist ein Kurort, der Stellplatz liegt direkt bei der Therme. Genau genommen sind es zwei Plätze, getrennt durch eine Bundesstraße. Etwas unübersichtlich – es war zunächst gar nicht klar, ob noch Plätze frei sind. Vor den Stellflächen standen kleine Schilder mit Reservierungen, die Rezeption öffnete erst am späten Nachmittag. |
| So we parked the van and went to have a look on foot. In the end, we found exactly one free spot. A bit of luck. The site itself felt functional, but rather expensive for what it offered. Since we still had time before reception opened, we decided to walk the 1.5 kilometers into town – also to see where we might have dinner later. The first impression was actually quite pleasant. But the closer we got to the center, the more that feeling faded. It was hard to put into words – maybe it was simply missing something that makes a place feel alive. A bit of flair. Some buildings felt rather generic. | Also parkten wir den Van zunächst und machten uns zu Fuß auf die Suche. Am Ende fanden wir noch genau einen freien Platz. Ein bisschen Glück. Der Stellplatz selbst wirkte funktional, aber für das Gebotene recht hochpreisig. Bis zur Öffnung der Rezeption hatten wir noch Zeit und beschlossen, die etwa 1,5 Kilometer in die Innenstadt zu gehen – auch mit dem Gedanken, etwas für den Abend zu finden. Der erste Eindruck war noch ganz angenehm. Doch je näher wir ins Zentrum kamen, desto mehr verlor sich dieses Gefühl. Es war schwer festzumachen – vielleicht fehlte einfach das, was einen Ort lebendig wirken lässt. Ein wenig Flair. Einige Gebäude wirkten eher beliebig. |
| I looked at my wife. “I don’t know… it just doesn’t feel right.” We walked a little further, but the thought stayed. And at some point it was clear: we wouldn’t stay here. On the way back, we walked through the spa park. From there, we made a spontaneous decision to move on. Not far – just see what we would find. | Ich schaute meine Frau an. „Ich weiß nicht… irgendwie passt es nicht.“ Wir gingen noch ein Stück weiter, aber der Gedanke blieb. | And already on arrival, it felt different. A small site on the edge of town, next to a sports ground. Three spaces, two already occupied. We parked in between. And almost immediately, we started talking. | Und schon bei der Ankunft fühlte es sich anders an. Ein kleiner Stellplatz am Ortsrand, nahe eines Sportgeländes. Drei Plätze, zwei waren bereits belegt. Wir durften uns dazwischenstellen. Kaum angekommen, kamen wir ins Gespräch. |
| One of our neighbors lived not far from here. He told us he often comes here – only about 20 kilometers, but usually with noticeably better weather. Up to eight degrees difference compared to the Black Forest. That afternoon, he used the time to prepare his daughter’s bicycle for sale. These are the kinds of encounters that often shape a journey. And at the same time, we got a few helpful tips about the town. It was already late afternoon when we set off towards the town. Again about 1.5 kilometers – but this time it felt shorter. | Einer unserer Nachbarn wohnte gar nicht weit entfernt. Er erzählte uns, dass er regelmäßig hierher fährt – nur etwa 20 Kilometer, aber oft mit deutlich besserem Wetter. Bis zu acht Grad Unterschied zum Schwarzwald. An diesem Nachmittag nutzte er die Zeit, um das Kinderfahrrad seiner Tochter für den Verkauf herzurichten. Solche Begegnungen sind es, die eine Reise oft prägen. Und ganz nebenbei bekamen wir auch gleich ein paar Tipps für den Ort. Es war schon später Nachmittag, als wir uns auf den Weg in die Stadt machten. Wieder etwa 1,5 Kilometer – aber diesmal fühlte sich der Weg kürzer an. |

| The town’s history goes back a long way. Staufen developed during the Middle Ages and is closely connected to Staufen Castle, which overlooks the town. It is also known for the legend of Doctor Faustus, who – according to the story – met his end here. Even today, traces of this legend can be found throughout the town. | Die Geschichte des Ortes reicht weit zurück. Staufen wurde bereits im Mittelalter geprägt und ist eng mit der Burg Staufen verbunden, die oberhalb der Stadt liegt. | We simply wandered. No destination, no plan. Looking, stopping, moving on. Our neighbor from the site had recommended a small Italian restaurant: Mediterrane Leidenschaft. It was still a bit too cold to sit outside, so we chose a table inside. A small room, warm light, a touch of Italy. Friendly service, a genuine smile. For a moment, it felt as if we had traveled a bit further south. We chose Pinsa – in different variations. Simple, but really good. | Wir ließen uns einfach treiben. Ohne Ziel, ohne Plan. Schauen, stehen bleiben, weitergehen. Unser Stellplatz-Nachbar hatte uns ein kleines italienisches Restaurant empfohlen: Mediterrane Leidenschaft. Draußen war es uns noch etwas zu kühl, also setzten wir uns nach drinnen. Ein kleiner Raum, warmes Licht, ein Hauch Italien. Freundlicher Service, ein ehrliches Lächeln. Für einen Moment fühlte es sich an, als wären wir ein Stück weiter südlich unterwegs. Wir entschieden uns für Pinsa – in verschiedenen Variationen. Einfach, aber richtig gut. |
| After dinner, we walked through the old town once more, had some ice cream, and finally took a bottle of Bardolino back to the van. | Nach dem Essen gingen wir noch einmal durch die Altstadt, holten uns ein Eis und nahmen schließlich eine Flasche Bardolino mit zurück zum Stellplatz. |
| The idea came quickly: to end the evening together. And that’s exactly what we did. We sat together for quite a while, talked, had a drink – and at some point, it simply became quiet. | Die Idee war schnell da: den Abend gemeinsam ausklingen lassen. Und genau so kam es auch. Wir saßen noch lange zusammen, tranken, redeten – und irgendwann wurde es einfach still. |
| It was a good decision to move on. To leave Bad Krozingen behind and arrive in Staufen. Sometimes you only realize afterwards what actually felt right. | Es war eine gute Entscheidung, weiterzufahren. Bad Krozingen hinter uns zu lassen und in Staufen anzukommen. Manchmal merkt man erst im Nachhinein, was sich richtig angefühlt hat. |

| As we were told on site, the few spaces are quite popular and often occupied early. Even larger motorhomes can be accommodated without any problems. A hedge surrounds the area and creates a bit of separation from the surroundings. There are no supply or disposal facilities, so the site is rather basic. Street lighting provides enough light in the evening, so you’re not standing completely in the dark. As it is located right next to a sports ground, it can be a bit livelier at times. During the night, however, it was quiet for us. ▫️ open all year round ▫️ maximum stay 48 hours ▫️ free of charge ▫️ space for approx. 3 motorhomes ▫️ located on the edge of town ▫️ close to a small stream ▫️ old town within walking distance (~ 1.5 km) ▫️ direct access to cycling and hiking trails ▫️ no grey or black water disposal ▫️ no electricity or fresh water supply | Wie wir vor Ort erfahren haben, sind die wenigen Plätze recht gefragt und oft schon früh belegt. Auch größere Wohnmobile finden hier gut Platz. Eine Hecke umgibt den Bereich und schafft etwas Abstand zur Umgebung. Es gibt keinerlei Ver- oder Entsorgung, der Platz ist also eher schlicht gehalten. Durch die Straßenbeleuchtung steht man abends jedoch nicht komplett im Dunkeln. Direkt angrenzend liegt ein Sportplatz – je nach Nutzung kann es dort etwas lebhafter werden. In der Nacht selbst war es bei uns aber ruhig. ▫️ ganzjährig geöffnet ▫️ Nutzung max. 48 h ▫️ gebührenfrei ▫️ Platz für ca. 3 Mobile, auch größer 8 m ▫️ Lage am Ortsrand ▫️ in Bachnähe ▫️ Altstadt fußläufig erreichbar (ca. 1,5 km) ▫️ Rad- und Wanderwege direkt erreichbar ▫️ keine Entsorgung von Grau- oder Schwarzwasser ▫️ keine Versorgung mit Strom oder Frischwasser |
