Greetings, fellow travelers. Today I want to share with you one of those images that, no matter how many times you see it, never fails to inspire admiration: the beautiful bay of Manzanillo, one of the most enchanting spots on Margarita Island.
The photograph I’m showing you was taken from Simplicio RodrÃguez Avenue, a prime vantage point that offers a view of the bay in all its grandeur. From there, the view unfolds like a natural stage where the sea, the boats, and the daily comings and goings of the fishermen combine to create a landscape that seems frozen in time. Manzanillo is part of the picturesque municipality of AntolÃn del Campo, an area that preserves the traditional essence of Margarita and, despite the passing of the years, retains its charm intact.
Saludos, amigos viajeros. Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes una de esas imágenes que, por más que uno la vea, nunca deja de despertar admiración; la hermosa bahÃa de Manzanillo, uno de los rincones más encantadores de Isla Margarita.
La fotografÃa que les presento está tomada desde la avenida Simplicio RodrÃguez, un punto privilegiado que permite observar la bahÃa en toda su amplitud. Desde allÃ, la vista se abre como un escenario natural donde el mar, las lanchas y el movimiento cotidiano de los pescadores se combinan para crear un paisaje que parece detenido en el tiempo. Manzanillo pertenece al pintoresco municipio AntolÃn del Campo, una zona que conserva la esencia tradicional margariteña y que, a pesar del paso de los años, mantiene intacto su encanto.
The bay is known for its calm waters, a feature that stems from its status as a pocket bay, which protects it from strong waves and makes it an ideal spot for families with young children. Visitors often remark that, unlike other beaches in the north of the island, the water here doesn’t feel as cold, making it even more pleasant for a peaceful, leisurely swim. It is a place that invites calm, relaxation, and contemplation.
La bahÃa es conocida por sus aguas serenas, caracterÃstica que se debe a su condición de bahÃa de bolsa, lo que la protege del oleaje fuerte y la convierte en un lugar ideal para familias con niños pequeños. Quienes la visitan suelen comentar que, a diferencia de otras playas del norte de la isla, el agua aquà no se siente tan frÃa, lo que la hace aún más agradable para un baño tranquilo y prolongado. Es un espacio que invita a la calma, al descanso y a la contemplación.
Manzanillo is also a key hub for fishing activity. Fishermen’s boats take refuge along its shores, returning each afternoon after a day’s work. Watching them enter the bay is a spectacle that blends tradition, hard work, and natural beauty. From the cliff along Simplicio RodrÃguez Avenue, you can take in all this activity as if it were a live performance: the boats moving forward, the fishermen organizing their nets, and the comings and goings of those working along the coast. It’s a moment that, though an everyday occurrence for locals, is fascinating to those observing it through the eyes of a traveler.
Sometimes you can also see the nets and longlines stretched out in the water, used to keep the schools of fish alive while they await the arrival of the refrigerated trucks that will transport the fish to various destinations. This dynamic, so characteristic of life on Margarita Island, illustrates the deep relationship between the community and the sea—a connection that has endured for generations.
Manzanillo es también un punto clave para la actividad pesquera. En sus orillas se refugian las lanchas de los pescadores, que cada tarde regresan después de la faena. Verlas entrar a la bahÃa es un espectáculo que mezcla tradición, esfuerzo y belleza natural. Desde el risco de la avenida Simplicio RodrÃguez se aprecia todo ese movimiento como si fuera una obra en vivo; las lanchas avanzando, los pescadores organizando sus redes, el ir y venir de quienes trabajan en la costa. Es un momento que, aunque cotidiano para los lugareños, resulta fascinante para quienes observan con ojos viajeros.
En ocasiones también se pueden ver las redes y palangres extendidos en el agua, utilizados para mantener los cardúmenes vivos mientras esperan la llegada de las cavas refrigeradas que trasladarán el pescado a distintos destinos. Esta dinámica, tan propia de la vida margariteña, muestra la relación profunda entre la comunidad y el mar, una conexión que se ha mantenido por generaciones.
Along the beachfront, there are several restaurants where fish is served practically straight from the sea to your plate. That’s why many islanders don’t usually keep fish in the fridge; when the craving strikes, all you have to do is head to Manzanillo, choose the catch of the day, and enjoy it fresh, juicy, and with that unique flavor that only freshly caught seafood can offer.
Dear fellow travelers, if you ever have the chance to visit Margarita Island, I invite you to visit this beautiful bay. Take a walk along the shore, watch the sunset as it paints the sky with shades of gold and pink, and treat yourself to some delicious, freshly prepared fish. Manzanillo is more than just a beach; it’s a little universe where nature, tradition, and everyday life come together to offer an authentic and memorable experience.

En los márgenes de la playa se encuentran varios restaurantes donde el pescado se sirve prácticamente directo del mar al plato. Por eso, muchos habitantes de la isla no acostumbran a guardar pescado en la nevera; cuando surge el antojo, basta con acercarse a Manzanillo, elegir el pescado del dÃa y disfrutarlo fresco, jugoso y con ese sabor único que solo ofrece el mar recién servido.
Queridos amigos viajeros, si algún dÃa tienen la oportunidad de visitar Isla Margarita, los invito a que se acerquen a esta hermosa bahÃa. Caminen por su orilla, observen el atardecer que tiñe el cielo de tonos dorados y rosados, y regálense el gusto de probar un buen pescado preparado al instante. Manzanillo es más que una playa; es un pequeño universo donde la naturaleza, la tradición y la vida cotidiana se unen para ofrecer una experiencia auténtica y memorable.
