One Facebook Post... β‚±5,000 Later, We Were Living Our Best Lives

12861.png

Hello, Hivemates!

I'm finally back after almost two weeks... and yes, I disappeared for a good reason. πŸ˜‚

My friends and I finally crossed something off our bucket listβ€”we traveled to Davao! And honestly? I still catch myself smiling whenever I scroll through the pictures.

Have you ever seen a random Facebook post that completely changed your plans?

Because that's exactly how this trip happened.

One minute we were just scrolling through Facebook like every normal student. The next minute someone sent a travel post in our group chat and said, "What if...?"

The funniest part?

Nobody replied with "No."

Within a few minutes, we were already checking bus schedules, searching resorts, comparing prices, and acting like professional travel planners even though none of us had enough money. πŸ˜‚

Unlike our previous outing where we patiently saved β‚±10 every single day, this trip had absolutely no preparation.

No savings.

No emergency fund.

Just pure confidence.

Looking back... I honestly don't know where that confidence came from.

Each of us ended up spending almost β‚±5,000 for our four-day adventure.

Every time someone paid for food, another friend would jokingly say,

"There goes another scholarship allowance."

By the second day we had already stopped calculating our expenses because it was becoming too painful. Every swipe of GCash felt like another piece of our wallet saying goodbye.

But if you ask me today...

Was it worth it?

Without thinking twice...

Absolutely.

Before leaving for Davao, we made a list of places we wanted to visit.

Where should we stay?

Where should we eat?

Which cafΓ©s were worth trying?

Where could we watch the sunset?

And of course...

Where could we hike?

After hours of arguing in our group chat, we finally agreed on one destination that immediately caught our attention.

Islang Bato.

The pictures online already looked beautiful, but seeing it with my own eyes was something completely different.

12852.jpg

12851.jpg

The place felt unbelievably peaceful.

Huge rock formations stood proudly beside the sea while the cool breeze never seemed to stop blowing.

The water was unbelievably clear. Looking down almost felt like staring through glass.

The sound of the waves wasn't loud or aggressive.

It was calming.

The kind of sound that makes you forget your deadlines, unfinished assignments, and every stressful thing waiting back home.

I found myself sitting quietly for a few minutes.

No phone.

No talking.

Just appreciating how beautiful God's creation really is.

Sometimes pictures don't do places justice.

You really have to stand there yourself.

Of course... before we could enjoy everything...

Our bodies decided they had different plans.

12856.jpg

12854.jpg

We arrived in Davao around 4:30 in the afternoon.

The original plan sounded very responsible.

Drop our bags.

Buy groceries.

Cook dinner.

Sleep.

Simple.

Instead...

The beds looked at us.

We looked back.

And somehow... everyone fell asleep almost immediately.

When I opened my eyes again, I checked my phone.

9:47 PM.

Silence.

Complete darkness.

For a second I thought it was already morning.

Then somebody suddenly shouted,

"Guys... the grocery!"

We all jumped out of bed and rushed outside.

Every single store nearby had already closed.

Mission failed.

The only things still available?

Fruits.

So imagine this.

A group of hungry college students who had been dreaming of fried chicken, barbecue, instant noodles, and soft drinks...

Ended up having bananas, mangoes, and watermelon for dinner.

One of my friends looked at his banana and whispered,

"This wasn't part of the itinerary."

We laughed so hard because there was literally nothing else we could do.

At least we accidentally became healthy for one night.

12860.jpg

The next morning was when the real adventure finally started.

We packed our bags early and headed straight to Islang Bato.

The walk itself already felt like part of the experience.

Every few minutes someone would stop just to admire the scenery.

Others couldn't stop taking pictures.

Meanwhile, one friend kept saying,

"Last picture."

That "last picture" happened about fifty times.

When we finally reached the area, every bit of tiredness disappeared.

It was even more beautiful than we expected.

The sea looked endless.

The wind was cool.

Everything felt peaceful.

It honestly became one of those places where you don't need expensive activities.

Just sitting there already feels enough.

12850.jpg

12845.jpg

Then came Day Three.

Hiking day.

Now let me remind you...

Most of us are beginners.

When we first saw the trail, everyone acted confident.

"Easy."

"We can finish this."

"We're young."

Five minutes later...

Reality humbled us.

Someone was already asking how much farther.

Another friend kept pretending to stop just to admire the view, but we all knew they were secretly catching their breath.

Every uphill climb felt twice as steep.

Our shirts were soaked in sweat.

Our legs started questioning every life decision that led us there.

But somehow...

The more tired we became...

The funnier everything got.

Every small success became a celebration.

Whenever someone reached another part of the trail, we'd cheer like they had just won a gold medal.

And when we finally reached the top...

Nobody spoke for almost a minute.

We simply stood there.

Looking at the mountains.

Looking at the sky.

Realizing every painful step was completely worth it.

That trip reminded me of something.

12847.jpg

12849.jpg

Sometimes the best adventures aren't the perfectly planned ones.

Sometimes they're the random decisions made after seeing one Facebook post.

The ones that empty your wallet.

Make you eat fruits for dinner.

Leave your legs sore for days.

But somehow...

Fill your heart with memories you'll keep forever.

And honestly...

If my friends asked me to do it all again tomorrow...

I'd probably say yes before checking my bank account. πŸ˜‚
