Walking through the streets of Marigüitar (Eng/Esp)

During my visit to Marigüitar, I was able to appreciate, on my walk through the town, several examples of murals, some of them created by Luis Omar Tovar, known as Memin in the city of Cumana. His art is unmistakable and very original, which is why he is in demand to bring color to the streets. In the photographs I am showing you, you can see images of a town that shows some signs of modernity, but which nevertheless refuses to leave its traditions behind.

Another of the murals I found on my walk symbolized a tribute to Luis "Velorio" Rodriguez, a craftsman and artisan from Marigüitar, famous for his wooden animal figures, which he sells in his shop on the main street.

One of the characteristics of the place is the solitude of its streets. At midday, there were few people walking around, most remained sheltered in their homes. I even saw several families enjoying their lunches in the shade outside their homes. I must admit that the sun is intense, and the proximity of the sea makes it feel very abrasive.

I really liked this atmosphere, it's very relaxed, a complete contrast to everyday life in Cumana. From the moment I got off the bus, I had the feeling that I had arrived in a magical place, and that's how it was. My stay there was wonderful, every street preserved traces of the past, just as Cumaná was some fifty years ago.

I plan to return to continue enjoying the beauty of Marigüitar and explore new places. Without a doubt, this town is a paradise located just an hour from Cumana, offering the chance to disconnect from the stifling reality for a while.

En mi visita a Marigüitar pude apreciar, en mi recorrido a pie por la población, varias muestras de murales, algunos de ellos realizados por Luis Omar Tovar, conocido como Memín en la ciudad de Cumaná. Su arte es inconfundible y muy original, por ello es requerido para dar colorido a las calles. En las fotografías que les muestro se pueden observar imágenes de un pueblo que muestra algunos rasgos de modernidad, pero que de igual manera se resiste a dejar atrás sus tradiciones.

Justamente otro de los murales que encontré en mi transitar simbolizaba un homenaje a Luis "Velorio" Rodríguez, cultor y artesano oriundo de Marigüitar, célebre por sus figuras de animales talladas en madera, las cuales vende en su negocio, ubicado en la calle principal.

Una de las características del lugar es la soledad de sus calles, al mediodía eran pocas las personas caminando, la mayoría permanecían resguardadas en sus hogares, inclusive observé a varias familias que disfrutaban sus almuerzos bajo la sombra, fuera de sus casas. Debo admitir que el sol es intenso y además la proximidad del mar hace que se sienta muy abrasivo.

Me gustó mucho este ambiente, es muy relajado, un contraste absoluto con la cotidianidad cumanesa. Desde que me bajé del autobús tuve la sensación de llegar a un lugar mágico y así fue, la estadía allí fue maravillosa, cada calle conservaba huellas del pasado, tal como era Cumaná hace unos cincuenta años atrás.

Tengo previsto regresar para seguir disfrutando de la belleza de Marigüitar y explorar nuevos lugares, sin duda, este pueblo es un paraíso ubicado apenas a una hora de Cumaná y que ofrece la posibilidad de desconectarse por un buen rato de la agobiante realidad.
