Tour of Valentin Valiente Park (Eng/Esp)

Valentín Valiente Park, located in the Caigüire neighborhood, has become a haven for talented young athletes who often gather there to develop their physical skills and abilities while staying away from vices and violence.

The park features facilities suitable for five sports: indoor soccer, basketball, volleyball, baseball, and softball. It also has recreational areas for the enjoyment of community members who come to watch the young people in action.

This initiative was launched by the regional government, which is why the park features a building that serves as the headquarters of COFNA (Committee for the Education and Organization of Children and Adolescents), an organization affiliated with SAPINAES, the Autonomous Service for the Comprehensive Protection of Children and Adolescents in Sucre State. For this reason, the park promotes participation in sports events and cultural activities, in addition to offering a library to assist with schoolwork. The mission is to keep young people engaged in activities that contribute to their healthy development and, of course, to prevent them from emulating antisocial role models.

This park pays tribute to General Carlos Jose Valentin Garcia, better known as Valentín Valiente, a nickname given to him by the Liberator Simon Bolivar after the soldier from Cumana saved his life. The popular Caigüire neighborhood belongs to the Valentin Valiente parish.

It is worth noting that last year, the park was renovated due to structural deterioration, which is to be expected since both metal and wood lose their strength when exposed to salt air and the elements. The work carried out has breathed new life into the site, once again providing the community with a suitable place for healthy recreation and training for young athletes who dream of becoming professional athletes.

El parque Valentín Valiente, ubicado en el sector Caigüire, se ha convertido en el refugio de talentosos niños y jóvenes deportistas que suelen reunirse en este espacio para desarrollar sus destrezas y habilidades físicas en tanto se mantienen alejados de los vicios y la violencia.

El espacio cuenta con instalaciones aptas para desarrollar cinco disciplinas deportivas: Fútbol sala, baloncesto, vóleibol, béisbol y sóftbol. Además dispone de algunas áreas recreativas para el disfrute de los habitantes de la comunidad que acuden a observar a los jóvenes en acción.

Esta iniciativa fue impulsada por el gobierno regional, de allí que el parque cuente con una edificación que funciona como sede del COFNA (Comité de Formación y Organización de los Niños, Niñas y Adolescentes) organización adscrita a SAPINAES, que es el Servicio Autónomo de Protección Integral al Niño, Niña y Adolescente del Estado Sucre. Por tal razón allí se promueve la participación en eventos deportivos y actos culturales, además de ofrecerles una biblioteca para ayudar en las labores escolares. La misión es mantener a la juventud ocupada en actividades que contribuyan a su sano desarrollo y por supuesto prevenir la imitación de modelos antisociales.

Este parque rinde tributo al General Carlos José Valentín García, mejor conocido como Valentín Valiente, apodo con el cual lo bautizó el Libertador Simón Bolívar, una vez que el militar cumanés le salvó la vida. El popular sector de Caigüire pertenece a la parroquia Valentín Valiente.

Es de hacer notar que el año pasado, el parque fue remodelado porque había sufrido deterioro estructural, lo que es previsible porque tanto el metal como la madera pierden rigidez ante los embates del salitre y la intemperie. El trabajo realizado concedió una nueva vida al lugar, ofreciendo de nuevo a la comunidad un lugar apto para el sano esparcimiento y el entrenamiento de jóvenes deportistas que sueñan con convertirse en atletas profesionales.
