I began exploring Quetepe Beach from the eastern end—perhaps the most secluded part of the resort—since reaching it requires climbing a steep hill. From the top, the view can be intimidating for those who suffer from vertigo, but there’s no denying that the scenery is picture-perfect.

In my case, I was able to climb up without any trouble. Some time ago, there was a staircase that made the ascent easier; however, due to landslides, the access paths have collapsed, so getting around here is a bit of a challenge, but it’s worth the effort.
The view of the sea from above is breathtaking; the mountain seems to have a life of its own and looks majestic as it surrounds the sea, as if embracing it. Early in the morning, the waters were calm, and there was a sense of deep tranquility in the air. The landscape evoked pleasant feelings.

In this area, there are a few vacant houses belonging to vacationers who tend to come here sporadically. It’s clear that salt spray and the climatic conditions typical of a marine ecosystem have taken a toll on the metal structure, which is why some beams, rebar, and wires show signs of rust and are exposed after the cement and concrete coating cracked and fell away.

It seems contradictory, but in this setting, the best homes are the ones that appear most fragile at first glance—with wooden beams and thatched roofs, the very same materials used to build boats. Looking at this scene, I can’t help but recall the many times I dreamed of having a house on the beach; but since that dream never came true, at least I can enjoy these views of the sea and mountains in the same frame right here in reality.
