A new adventure awaits me at another of Sucre State’s beautiful beaches; I’ve now made my way to Juana Josefa, located via Marigüitar, about twenty minutes from the city of Cumaná. The trip by public transportation is relatively quick; at the local bus terminal, comfortable buses await travelers starting early in the morning.

Once again, I enjoyed these calm, crystal-clear waters with my family. Alma was like a fish in water; it’s clear she loves the sea. She enjoys playing in the sand and watching the waves form—and running so they don’t catch her. This beach has a wonderful view, and you can see magnificent buildings in the area, as it’s ideal during the vacation season.

Unlike Guirintal, Juana Josefa has some depth just a few meters from the shore. In the distance, the mountains that define the opposite coastline looked majestic; it’s striking how close they seem just by looking at them. From every beach along the Marigüitar route, they appear in similar hues, yet the impression is unique at each spot—setting aside, of course, the angle of view.

At Juana Josefa, there were almost no seagulls or boobies on the horizon, though the clarity of the sea allowed us to spot cherecheres and camiguanas swimming near the shore. A rowboat and an outboard motorboat pulling an inflatable banana were part of the scenery, along with several boats parked on the sand, resting after a night’s work.

I took a tour of Juana Josefa and could see that it is a very well-established community. Large houses stood side by side with more modest homes, but in both cases, a dedication to gardening was evident, as a wonderful array of flora unfolded before my eyes, despite the arid environment.

It’s clear that the locals take care of their beaches; from one end to the other, the beach was spotless, with no plastic trash or debris in the sand or water. A small hut with a thatched roof served as a shelter from the blazing midday sun, and by then little Alma took the opportunity to take a nap after lunch.

We began our return at two in the afternoon, satisfied by the pleasant experience we had in this place. The trip back was quick; in less than ten minutes, we boarded a bus that took us back to Cumaná. Honestly, it makes me want to have a house on the beach and enjoy these wonders in my own backyard.
