Continuing my walk along Caigüire Beach, I reached the area where there are a few public shelters to protect you from the sun; it’s also the perfect spot to take in the scenery in the late afternoon and even to set up a campfire nearby to enjoy whatever the fishermen bring back after their catch.

Just then, there was a pot set up over a wood fire, in which some pepitonas were boiling; the distinctive smell filled the air. Nearby, several fishermen—who were repairing a boat on the shore at that moment—were waiting for the shellfish to open so they could enjoy this appetizer with a few drops of lemon juice.

These structures are different from the large ones known as Los Coctelitos, where vendors of seafood delicacies also begin their work in the afternoon and similarly set up a wood-fired stove and a pot so that the public can appreciate the freshness of their products.

A little further up, some children were enjoying a day at the beach, along with a dog that was running back and forth; the dog was an excellent swimmer who livened up the place, accompanying the children’s laughter and games with its barking and tail wagging.

The sky was particularly blue, a few birds were flitting about, and a handful of clouds dotted the seascape. This stroll along the boulevard ends at the Salvador Allende outpatient clinic, which has large windows at the back that also overlook the ocean, so the soothing sound of the waves can be heard inside.
