Beautiful views along the way (Eng/Esp)

I took advantage of the fact that I had some free time after running an errand and stopped to watch the bus make its way through the eastern part of Cumana. The state capital has undoubtedly expanded into its outlying areas, and in this case, I was traveling from the community of The Peñon toward the city center.

I took the opportunity to snap a few photos. From this vantage point, you can see the hill, which rises approximately 169 meters above sea level, according to various sources found online. These rock formations have always intrigued me because, according to historical records, they were submerged in the sea during the colonial era.

The Villa Cristobal Colon neighborhood, known simply as La Villa, is the first thing you come across, along with Plaza Gualberto Ibarreto; this area is very picturesque. Driving along Carúpano Avenue, we pass two shopping centers, both partially open. San Pedro signals that we are near the The Peñon interchange, which has a road leading to the former Toyota plant and also to the airport.

But since our destination is downtown, we continue on the same road. Soon we pass the Punta del Este Clinic, also known as Venesalud, followed by the Ipasme headquarters, the entrance to the Gran Mariscal neighborhood, the courthouse, and the CICPC headquarters, while across the street you can see the large Makro store and the Tourist Inn.

From here, we enter the popular Caigüire neighborhood, where landmarks such as the stadium and the Antonio José de Sucre military district immediately come into view. At this point, Carupano Avenue is lined with shops on both sides, including a gas station that is usually crowded.

Salvador Allende Square, located across from the clinic of the same name, marks the point where Carupano Avenue forks: one road connects to Perimetral Avenue, which runs along the beach, and the other to Gran Mariscal Avenue. We continue along the latter, and I notice the La Inmaculada School; next comes the former headquarters of the University of Oriente’s rector’s office, the Santa Ana Church, and another very busy gas station.

Jose Marti Square signals that I am near my destination; from here, you can access the Antonio Patricio de Alcala Hospital, another landmark on this route. The Gran Avenida Shopping Center marks the end of the avenue and the beginning of Bompland Street; from there, we head toward La Copita and emerge onto Montes Street, where the CANTV headquarters and the Antonio José de Sucre High School are located; we arrive at the center of Cumana.

Aproveché que tras realizar una diligencia me quedó algo de tiempo libre y me detuve a contemplar el recorrido que hacia el autobús por la parte Este de Cumaná, sin duda la capital del estado ha crecido en sus zonas limitrofes y en este caso voy desplazándome desde la comunidad de El Peñón hacia el centro de la ciudad.

Aproveché la ocasión para tomar unas cuantas fotografías. Desde esta posición se puede observar el cerro, el cual tiene una elevación de aproximadamente 169 metros sobre el nivel del mar, según diferentes datos encontrados en internet. Siempre me ha llamado la atención estas formaciones rococas porque, según registros históricos, estaban sumergidas en el mar durante la época colonial.

La urbanización Villa Cristóbal Colón, conocida simplemente como La Villa, es lo primero que aparece, además de la Plaza Gualberto Ibarreto, esta parte es muy pintoresca. Circulando por la avenida Carúpano pasamos por dos centros comerciales, ambos funcionando parcialmente, el San Pedro nos anticipa que estamos cerca del distribuidor El Peñón, el cual tiene una vía que comunica hacia la planta donde funcionaba la Toyota y también con el aeropuerto.

Pero como el destino es el centro, seguimos por la misma vía, pronto pasamos por la Clínica Punta del Este, también conocida como Venesalud, luego viene la sede del Ipasme, la entrada a la urbanización Gran Mariscal, los tribunales y la sede del CICPC, en tanto al frente se pueden distinguir la gran tienda Makro y el Parador Turístico.

A partir de acá entramos al popular sector de Caigüire, referentes como el estadio y la circunscripción militar Antonio José de Sucre, aparecen de inmediato. En este punto, la avenida Carúpano deja ver locales comerciales de ambos lados, incluyendo una bomba de gasolina que por lo regular permanece congestionada.

La plaza Salvador Allende, ubicada frente al ambulatorio del mismo nombre, es la señal de que la avenida Carúpano se bifurca, una vía comunica con la avenida Perimetral, que va por la playa, y la otra con la Gran Mariscal. Seguimos el rumbo por esta última y observo la Unidad Educativa La Inmaculada, luego viene la antigua sede del rectorado de la Universidad de Oriente, la iglesia Santa Ana y otra bomba de gasolina muy concurrida.

La plaza José Martí anticipa que estoy cerca de mi destino, por acá se accede al Hospital Antonio Patricio de Alcalá, otro sitio referencial en este recorrido, el Centro Comercial Gran Avenida anuncia el fin de la avenida y el inicio de la calle Bompland, de allí vamos rumbo a La Copita y desembocamos en la Calle Montes, donde está la sede de CANTV y el Liceo Antonio José de Sucre, llegamos al centro de Cumaná.
