A Walk Along Caigüire Beach (Eng/Esp)

English version

Every beach in Sucre State has its own charm, and although I’ve visited Caigüire several times, no two experiences are ever the same. The sea looks different because it reflects what’s happening in the sky, and on this occasion it was a bit cloudy, so the water was murky, there was a strong breeze, and of course plenty of waves; you could hear the sound of them crashing again and again against the massive rocks of the seawall.

Walking by the sea is always a relaxing experience, regardless of the day of the week or the weather conditions—with the exception of thunderstorms, of course. On this particular day, the sun was hidden behind the clouds, so the air was cool.

Because the waves were so strong, the water turned dark and choppy, but if you strained your eyes further out, toward the opposite shore, you could make out the blue hue, which in turn hinted at the depth of the beach and a clear sky in the distance. On several occasions, I have watched the rain from this spot and seen how it forms a sort of whitish curtain that blocks the view of Manicuare and Araya.

On this occasion, the force of the waves crashing against the rocks was such that they splashed people walking along the sidewalk on Perimetral Avenue. This is a very busy spot in the evenings because it’s an ideal place for jogging and exercising outdoors.

I spent quite a while enjoying the view and reminiscing about my younger days, when I used to exercise while watching the sunset. For several years, I made this walk a daily routine, but just as the sea changes with the weather, people must also set priorities; that’s why what was once the norm is now the exception.
