A new adventure: The Peñon Beach (Eng/Esp)

The beach in El Peñon welcomed us this Saturday for another family outing. At dawn, the day looked a bit cloudy, but then the weather cleared up and we enjoyed some lovely moments with the sun, sand, and the refreshing sea breeze. When you put these elements together, fun is guaranteed—especially with little Alma, who loves swimming at the beach and playing in the sand, building castles and making sand cakes.

This time, we weren’t alone on the beach; a few swimmers, likely local residents, were also there for a family gathering. You could hear the children’s laughter and the sound of them running about. We settled into a concrete hut to take in the view, which is lovely.

This beach is ideal for children because it isn’t deep; you can walk out about 50 meters from the shore without much risk. Little Alma had a great time because she could go out onto the beach freely, though always under constant parental supervision.

The beach is part of the community and getting there is easy; in fact, it’s faster than going to San Luis, which is why it’s usually the first choice for Cumanenses looking to enjoy the sea. You can also buy fresh fish right on the shore—I saw cojinoas, lamparosas, and herring.

The most popular area on weekends is the one surrounding the Brisas de Oriente bar, which at that time serves as a beer hall and a place for horse racing betting. Right across the street is a cockfighting arena and a few kiosks. Several families were gathered there, enjoying pepitonas, sancocho, fried fish, and liquor—along with soft drinks for the kids—near the beach, while music played in the background.

But we prefer peace and quiet; we take the opportunity to spend time together, have lunch as a family, and enjoy nature without any major disturbances.

La playa ubicada en El Peñón nos recibió este sábado para un nuevo paseo familiar. Al amanecer el día lucía un poco nublado, pero luego el panorama cambió y disfrutamos de gratos momentos acompañados de sol, arena y la refrescante brisa marina. Cuando juntamos estos elementos, la diversión está garantizada, sobre todo, junto a la pequeña Alma, a quien le encanta bañarse en la playa y jugar con la arena construyendo castillos y preparando tortas.

Esta vez la playa no estaba sola, algunos bañistas, seguramente residentes de la comunidad, estaban también en una reunión familiar. Se dejaba sentir la algarabía de los niños al reír y correr. Nos instalamos en una cabaña de cemento para apreciar la vista, la cual es agradable.

Esta playa es ideal para los niños porque no es honda, se puede caminar hasta unos 50 metros de la orilla sin mayores riesgos, la pequeña Alma disfrutó bastante porque podía ingresar a la playa con total libertad, aunque siempre bajo permanente supervisión familiar.

La playa forma parte de la comunidad y el traslado es sencillo, en tal sentido es más rápido que acudir a San Luis, por ello suele ser la primera opción de los cumaneses para disfrutar del mar. En la orilla también se puede comprar pescado fresco, pude ver cojinoas, lamparosas y arenques.

La zona más visitada los fines de semana es la que rodea al bar Brisas de Oriente, que a esa hora es una cervecería y sitio de apuestas hípicas. Justo en frente está ubicada una gallera y algunos quioscos. Varias familias estaban allí reunidas disfrutando, cerca de la orilla de la playa, de pepitonas, sancocho, pescado frito y licores, refresco para los niños, mientras la música se dejaba sentir.

Pero nosotros nos inclinamos por la tranquilidad, aprovechamos para compartir, almorzar en familia y observar la naturaleza sin mayores perturbaciones.
