Knowing people that can show you the right places in town is always of great help. So I am very lucky to have met someone in my hostel, who was in Belgrade before and knows all the best places. Yesterday he took me to KC Grad. It's a place for, what seems to be, cultural exchange between Europeans that are currently in Belgrade, weather it be tourists, locals or foreign residents.
Part of their program is to show all the most interesting football world cup games – yesterday, they showed the game between France and Senegal. I really would have liked Senegal to win. Why? Well, just because it would be more interesting. You can always be the boring person, that just speaks in favor of the statistically stronger team. But take sympathy into account and you will end up rooting for a team that you sympathize with, instead of always forcefully trying to be on the winners side.
As it turns out, my hopes for a Senegalese win didn't come true… The first half of the game definitely gave some hope, but in the second half, France completely destroyed Senegal. The final result: 3:1 for France.
From one of the tables without a language assigned to it, the view at the game was pretty good! (Image taken by me)But back to KC Grad in general. It is a very beautiful location, fairly central, in an old warehouse with an open area, as you can see in the image. The location is right next to the Sava river, which is one of the two rivers in Belgrade, as well as next to the Brankov Bridge.
It wasn't just about the match this evening. It was also mixed with a language exchange: At different tables, you were supposed to speak different languages. There were tables for Spanish, German, Russian, Serbian and more. Just sit down and introduce yourself to the first person. Everyone is very friendly and open to have conversations with anyone!
During the match I sat down with some Germans. After the match was over, I moved on to the Spanish table, to listen a bit to them to improve my Spanish.
Ya no hablo muy bien, pero practicar en vivo es una de las mejores ideas para mejorar.
Tomorrow, the 18th of June they will show the next match: Switzerland vs. Bosnia. I will definitely go there. Entrance is free, beer costs average western prices, people are super international, open and nice. If you're in town, take the chance to give the place a visit!
Planning to go? Comment "I'll be there!" and which language you’d practice first.
