Australia - Travelling Back In Time At Melbourne Museum

IMG_4010.JPG

Hello there!

Having completed my earlier travel posts on several interesting countries and regions, including Japan, Maldives, Indonesia, US, Europe and the latest one being New Zealand, it's time to fly over to Australia!

Australia is a country that I have been to twice in my life. The first time was to Sydney in 2009, and the second time was to Melbourne in 2011. And I realised that's 14 years since I was last there! Anyway, time to relive those moments as I share the sights and sounds of my experience!

Here are the posts so far:
Australia - The Amazing Views At Sydney Harbour Bridge
Australia - Admiring The Sydney Opera House
Australia - Exploring The Sydney Beaches
Australia - Story Books Come Alive At The Hunter Valley Gardens
Australia - Big Skyscrapers And Small Koalas In Sydney
Australia - Catching Rainbows On Top Of Eureka Skydeck At Melbourne

We are back at Melbourne and this time, we are headed to the Melbourne Museum! Even though I am not really a museum person, museums are still a good place to visit if you have some time to chill. It allows visitors to learn so much about the country's or the city's history and culture, and it's indoor so it can easily be a wet weather plan and there's air-condition. And who knows, one can find amazing things within sometimes! So let's go!

Big words to welcome visitors!

IMG_3981.JPG

Something interesting to read...

IMG_3984.JPG

And something interesting to see...

IMG_3982.JPG

And probably the crowd's favourite - dinosaurs! Well, the skeleton version. It's amazing how huge these creatures were back then!

IMG_3987.JPG

IMG_3996.JPG

IMG_3998.JPG

And then we have animals too! I would think these were dead animals that were preserved? They looked so real though and there were so many species on display.

IMG_3991.JPG

IMG_3994.JPG

Of course, the koala bear deserved a photo on its own!

IMG_3995.JPG

We moved onto from animals and dinosaurs to the planets!

IMG_3999.JPG

Could you believe Earth looked like that many billion years ago?

IMG_4000.JPG

And then it become like this.

IMG_4001.JPG

Not very interesting for me, unless you love geography. We moved on to the next section and there were minerals! If I am not wrong, that's a major part of Australia's economy.

IMG_4002.JPG

Oh wow, what's this? Glow in the dark minerals? Are you kidding me?

IMG_4006.JPG

Not kidding! Look at these minerals!!! This was probably the fascinating exhibit in the museum so far!

IMG_4005.JPG

The museum was pretty big and we moved on along the corridor to our next section.

IMG_4008.JPG

The Melbourne Story! It's a lot more history and culture focused.

IMG_4009.JPG

IMG_4010.JPG

IMG_4011.JPG

One of the highlights for Melbourne Museum is the Pygmy Blue Whale exhibit! As we all know, blue whales are the largest living creatures on the planet. The skeleton displayed is the largest exhibit in the museum.

IMG_4014.JPG

Just look at that! It effectively took over the entire corridor!

IMG_4013.JPG

Despite not being a museum person, I still thoroughly enjoyed this visit to the Melbourne Museum. One thing I like about the exhibits were that it catered to different types of visitors and not focused on one specific theme. There's something fascinating for everyone, whether you like history, or geography, or living creatures, or plants, you can spend more time in the section of your interest. For me, the glow in the dark minerals were the eye opener because that's something I didn't know and haven't seen before.

And that's all I have today! Have you been to Melbourne Museum or Australia? Let me know in the comments below!

Finally, thanks for reading my post in the community under World Map Pin!

Lately, I have had a lot of things on my plate and didn't have too much time for checking out stuff on HIVE, and today, I spotted your post... At first sight, I thought this was a continuation of your "dinosaur" series, as I remember the post from the New York National Museum... hehehehe...
It looks like the Sydney Museum also offers a great mix of things! I like those glowing minerals!! Amazing!
