🐎 Corregudes de Joies — A tradition on the sands of Pinedo
✈️ Hello Hive family! Here's another post about my adventures in Valencia!
Every summer, Pinedo Beach, just a few kilometres from Valencia, becomes the setting for one of the most unique traditions in the area: the Corregudes de Joies.
I went there this summer with my camera, not really knowing what to expect. The beach was packed with people, horses walking along the sand and riders getting ready for the races. It felt completely different from an ordinary afternoon at the beach
The Corregudes de Joies have been held for more than 180 years. Traditionally, local farmers competed riding their horses bareback, racing along the Mediterranean shore. The prize was the joia, originally a silk scarf placed on a laurel wreath.
What I liked most was the contrast: a tradition that has survived for generations taking place on a beach surrounded by modern Valencia, with hundreds of people gathering on the sand to watch.
And then the races begin. Two horses at a time gallop along the beach, with the riders trying to keep control without a saddle. Everything happens incredibly fast — sand flying everywhere, people cheering and the Mediterranean right next to the track.
It is one of those local traditions that you can easily miss even if you live nearby, and definitely a different way of discovering Valencia beyond the usual tourist spots.

It’s wonderful that this tradition continues to evolve, even if in a modern way; yet the essence is still very much present in the details, such as not using a saddle, and I love that you were there to bring us this beauty. I love horses and right from the start I enjoyed your post, imagining myself there, watching them in person.
