Exploring the western part of the beach (Eng/Esp)

The western part of Maigualida Beach beckoned me to explore, so I heeded nature’s call and set out on my mission; wearing the same clothes I’d arrived in, I embarked on the adventure. I wasn’t sure what trails I’d find because it was my first time there.

In this part of the shore, there are several houses; it was quite lively there because they were inhabited, so most were not vacation homes but rather fishermen’s residences. As for the name Maigualida, I was told it was a native word of indigenous origin that refers to the virtues of nature. Its sound and meaning made it a feminine name that was widely used several decades ago.

As I walked along, I enjoyed the scenery. The beach became rocky, and a curious log caught my eye; its rounded edges were surely the result of the constant waves, just as the natural process of river pebbles forms. In this part of the beach, you could also see a few boats, and before reaching the boardwalk, there was a lot of seaweed along the shore.

I reached a corner and thought my journey would end there—the path was half-collapsed, and the sea threatened to engulf me. I decided to peer over to see if I could continue, and indeed I could, but the route was tricky; several pieces of debris lay in a corner. Judging by the noise of machinery and the smell, I was undoubtedly passing by a seafood canning plant. The exterior of this building was made of gray concrete and bore no identifying marks.

But once again, nature offered me beautiful sights beyond this point, so, with great skill and determination, I made my way along this shore and pressed on. At this hour of the morning, the houses were bustling with life—music could be heard, the smell of coffee filled the air, children were smiling and running about, and women were preparing fish. I’ve always loved this everyday life on the beach; it has that flavor of ancestral tradition that I adore.

After walking a few meters, I could see the calm water—it was so tempting that I took off my shoes and waded in to take a dip. Strangely, my legs turned a dark color, which was quite unusual. It was the first time something like that had ever happened to me. Upon looking a little closer, I realized that this greenish tint was caused by the algae along the seabed.

La zona oeste de la playa Maigualida me invitaba a la exploración, así que acepté el llamado de la naturaleza y emprendí la misión, así que con la misma ropa con la cual llegué me lancé a la aventura. No sabía con seguridad cuáles serían los senderos que encontraría porque es primera vez que estoy en este lugar.

En esta parte de la orilla están diversas casas, había bastante movimiento allí porque estaban habitadas, así que la mayoría no eran residencias de temporadistas sino de pescadores. Con respecto al nombre Maigualida, me indicaron que era una palabra autóctona de procedencia indígena que se refiere a las virtudes de la naturaleza. Su sonoridad y significado la convirtió en un nombre femenino que es muy utilizado hace varias décadas atrás.

Mientras avanzaba, disfrutaba del paisaje. La orilla de la playa se volvía pedregosa y un curioso tronco llamó mi atención, sus bordes redondeados seguramente se deben al constante oleaje, tal como se hace el proceso natural de los cantos rodados. Por esta parte de la playa también se podían observar algunas embarcaciones y antes de llegar al malecón se perciben muchas algas en la orilla.

Llegué a una esquina y pensé que hasta aquí llegaría mi travesía, el camino estaba a medio derrumbar y el mar amenazaba con abrazarme. Decidí asomarme para observar si podía avanzar y en efecto, pero la ruta era complicada, varios escombros yacían en una esquina. Por el ruido a maquinaria y el olor, sin duda estaba transitando por una empresa de conserva de productos marinos. El exterior de esta edificación estaba en obra gris y no tenía identificación.

Pero de nuevo la naturaleza me ofreció hermosas imágenes más allá de este punto, así que, con gran destreza y determinación, terminé de pasar por esta orilla y seguí adelante. A esta hora de la mañana había mucha vida en las casas, se escuchaba música, olía a café, niños sonriendo y correteando, mujeres arreglando pescado. Esta cotidianidad a orilla de la playa siempre me ha gustado, tiene ese gusto a tradición ancestral que me encanta.

Tras caminar varios metros, pude observar el agua plácida, era tan tentadora que me quité los zapatos y entré al agua para bañarme. De forma curiosa, mis piernas tomaron una coloración oscura, algo bastante inusual. Era la primera vez que me pasaba algo así. Al indagar un poco más, me di cuenta que esta coloración verdosa era producto de las algas que estaban en la orilla del lecho marino.
