Across from Badaracco Bermudez Square is a very special alleyway that leads to Quetepe Square. This passageway is filled with art and color, with paintings that transport us to the Cumana of yesteryear, the era when this part of the city was first settled.

This space is part of the Historic District, which is why its murals are part of the Ciudad Mural project. The walls feature many symbols of our culture, traditions, and customs that, while rooted in the colonial era, remain an integral part of our identity today.

This is where the neighborhood residents gather to relax and chat for a while; some young people play soccer, and the older folks chat in the shade. From the plaza, you can see the quite inviting walkway, which is embellished by murals—so much so that the sense of depth makes you want to gaze at them for quite a while.

There’s a very peaceful atmosphere here; you have plenty of time to take in each mural as if it were an open-air exhibition. The predominance of blue stands out—the color of the sea and the sky appears in almost all the artwork. The image of a boat stands out on one wall, surrounded by a composition depicting the conquest and the colonial era, side by side: on one side, the Cumanagotos indigenous people gathered around a rudimentary fire pit, and on the other, the image of a 19th-century mansion with two women—the one of higher social standing watching a maid wash clothes.

I enjoy visiting these places; although the problems plaguing the rest of the city are felt here as well, the residents of the Colonial District have reasons to lift their spirits and warm their hearts.

Thank you very much ❤️
I’ve been told that Cumaná is a very beautiful town, and the power hardly ever goes out—haha! Best regards.
Yeah, it’s really lovely, but they’ve misled you about the electricity… Just yesterday it went out for five hours, and during the week it’s happened three times in a row 😂 We’re in survival mode.
We're still here, Thank you 🤗
