As I mentioned before, to enter this place you have to walk through a large garden; it will take you about 15 minutes to reach the villa, but it's well worth it because you'll find several viewpoints along the way. This place is located in the heart of the Sintra mountains, so the views along this route are incredible; you can see the city of Sintra and beyond. The area is very well maintained, so you can see beautiful plants. I mentioned earlier that Sintra has its own ecosystem where tropical plants can grow without any problems, so visiting this place in spring must be beautiful, as there is an area full of roses.
So, it's time to talk about the history of this beautiful building. This place was created thanks to Víctor Carlos Sassetti, a man passionate about his land. Born in Sintra, he was passionate about this nature reserve and a person of high economic standing. He already owned another building in the mountains, which was the hotel near the Moorish castle, but his passion for the mountains was so great that in 1885 he decided to buy several hectares of land in this reserve and hire the famous architect Luigi Manini, also an Italian painter and set designer. Working hand in hand, the two colleagues designed and carried out the construction of this place. With great passion and Luigi's talent, they managed to create a harmonious space in an urban building guided by the hand and inspiration of Mother Nature that surrounds this place. Happily, this man lived in this villa until his death. Later, this space was rented to the Armenian millionaire Calouste Gulbenkian in 1920 and 1955, where he also spent part of his life until his death. Isabel Armanda Luísa Real became the next owner, where she decided to change the name of the place to Quinta da Amizade; that is why this place is currently found under that name and not under its original name, which was Vila Sassetti. Later, this place went through three more owners, but in 2004 it came into the hands of the Sintra municipal council, and in 2011 They decided to open it to the public, which they rightly thought would be an excellent idea, since this place is part of the tour of the other buildings in Sintra, allowing tourists to visit the entire reserve with several places to explore.
