Dhunche to Gosainkunda

Greetings and Namaste from Nepal, a country from the Himalayas.
There are many travels where the destination is beautiful and calm but the trail becomes the adventure. Our travel to the Gosainkunda of Rasuwa district is one of them.
It was 4th year of our medical school. We were in a 2 month visit to the Rasuwa district hospital and Nuwakot Primary Health Care Centre. We were very ahead of the scheduled programs. So, we decided to take a quick travel to the holy place of the Hindu pilgrims, the Gosainkunda.

Our travel started from the Bidur of Nuwakot district. It is the headquarter of the district. We hired a bus and headed to the Dhunche.

There was moderate rainfall when we reached the Dhunche. We get out of the bus and had tea and local snacks. We took plastic wrappers from the local shops and had our luggages and bags packed and used the plastic raincoats to cover us.

When we were 2 kilometers short of the the Deurali which is considered as the first station to the pilgrims, we were much excited to see the beautiful hills covered with snows.

This was the first experience of snow to most of us. The best part of the experience was that we got to see the snowfall live. The weather forecast had suggested that there will be moderate to heavy snowfall during the evening. As we reached Deurali by 5 pm, we were a bit tired. But the breathtaking views of the Himalayas made us to forget the pain and tiredness.

We had a quick photo session. The network quality of the Nepal telecommunications was not so good at that place and even the electricity facility was not available. So we had to preserve our phone and camera charges. We did some quick snaps and enjoyed the snowfall.

Deurali was 2625 metres above from the sea level. It was a high altitude for most of us. So, to acclimatize, we decided to stay the night at Deurali. We had local soups, lentil rice, cereals, green leafy vegetables and Yak milk.

We waked up early in the morning, had our breakfast and started the second day trip. We were very excited to see the Langtang Himalayan range. The view was breathtaking. All the fields and grounds were covered with snow. Due to reflection of the white snow, it was a bit difficult in the vision, so the sunglasses were mandatory. We spent half an hour there and headed to the Lauribinayak.

Every hotels and houses roofs were covered with the thick snow. Local authorities told us that there is a heavy snowfall and around 3 feets of snow has already deposited in the upper hills.

One of my friend, Nirajan built a beautiful snowman. It looked so artistic.

We started to play with the snow and throw the snowballs to each other. This picture was taken by my friend Sulav where my friends were attacking me with the snow and I had no idea whether to run away from the attack or pose to the photography.

I took up the huge ball of snow to attack my friends. It was a wonderful moment.

As we had played in the cool air and Snow all day, I had headache and just stayed calm in the side. My friend gave me paracetamol and I was resting quite alone watching others play with the snow.
We got information from the local authority that the district administration officer had banned to go to Gosainkunda for 3 days because of the bad weather. So we couldn't go further ahead. We stayed that day at the Lauribinayak and returned to the Nuwakot other day .
