Kalkan Town - Kalkan Kasabası ( EN-TR)

Looking back at my old photos, I realize I took the most beautiful ones in Kaş, Antalya. I miss the lovely scent of the seaweed and the narrow streets with houses surrounded by colorful flowers in Kalkan, a town about 20 minutes from Kaş, a resort I visit almost every summer. This small town, situated between Kaş and Patara, has a unique atmosphere that soothes the heart and soul.

Eski fotoğraflarıma baktığımda, en güzellerini Antalya'nın Kaş ilçesinde çektiğimi fark ediyorum. Kaş'a yaklaşık 20 dakika uzaklıktaki, neredeyse her yaz ziyaret ettiğim Kalkan kasabasının o güzel deniz yosunu kokusunu ve rengarenk çiçeklerle çevrili evlerin bulunduğu dar sokaklarını özlüyorum. Kaş ve Patara arasında yer alan bu küçük kasabanın, kalbe ve ruha huzur veren eşsiz bir atmosferi var.

During our three-day stay in Kaş, we had the opportunity to visit both Kalkan and Patara. I've shared my Patara trip with you here before. I don't know why, but I skipped Kalkan. Perhaps it's because the wind that day prevented anyone from swimming in the sea, so we couldn't stay there for long. Kalkan is a small coastal town with some of the most beautiful natural scenery around the southernmost point of Antalya. When we arrived in Kalkan from Kaş, we struggled to find a parking spot in the narrow, winding streets that slope just above the beach. The town has a small beach surrounded by large and small stones and rocks in the background.

Kaş'ta geçirdiğimiz üç günlük konaklama da hem Kalkan'a hem de Patara'ya uğrama fırsatı bulduk. Patara'yı gezisini burada sizlerle daha önce paylaşmıştım. Neden bilmiyorum ama Kalkan'ı atlamışım. Especially in summer, it has become one of the most preferred holiday towns among both domestic and foreign tourists. In fact, the British have settled here. Many guesthouses and house-style accommodations are located on the steep mountain slope behind the town's coastline. The view of the coastline from this steep slope is stunning. Guesthouse-style accommodations, which face the sun directly, offer rental services to single families and extended families. Luxury villas on the hilltops, where the shimmering sea is clearly visible, offer the most enjoyable holiday experience. Whether it's the narrow streets or the boats anchored in the harbor, their sails swaying with every gust of wind, I can't say for sure, but it has a truly invigorating atmosphere.

Özellikle yazın yerli ve yabancı turistler arasında en çok tercih edilen tatil kasabalarından biri haline gelmiştir. Hatta İngilizler, buralara gelerek yerleşmişler. Kasaba sahilinin arkasındaki dik dağ yamacında konumlandırılmış bir çok pansiyon ve ev tipi konaklamalar vardır. Bu dik yamacından sahil çok güzel görünür. Güneşi tam karşısına alan pansiyon tipi konaklamalar, tek bir aile ve geniş ailelere kiralama üsulü hizmet vermektedirler. Denizin parlayan yüzünü çok net gösterdiği tepe noktalarda lüks villalar da tatil en keyiflisidir. Buranın dar sokakları mı, limana demir atan ve her rüzgar estiğinde yelkenleri sallanan tekneleri mi bilemem ama, insana iyi gelen bir havası var.

Kalkan, a small town center, is difficult to navigate by car due to its gently sloping and steep roads. Finding a parking spot can be challenging, especially in the summer. At the end of the center is a charming little harbor. Its narrow streets are lined with beautiful floral decorations that surround the Mediterranean Sea and are common in the region. The whitewashed houses, many stories high, give the town a unique charm. In the past, this town was home to the ancient Lycian civilization. A section of the world-famous Lycian Way also passes through this town.

Küçük bir şehir merkezi olan Kalkan, hafif eğimli ve dik yolları yüzünden merkezde araçla gezmek çok zor oluyor. Hatta yazın park yeri bulmakta zorlanıyorsunuz. Merkezin sonunda şirin ve küçük bir limanı var. Dar sokakları Akdenizi çevreleyen ve bölgede sıklıkla yetişen güzel çiçekli süslerle çevrilidir. Bir iki kattan oluşan beyaz badanalı evleri kasabayı ayrı bir güzellikte gösterir. Eskiden bu kasaba tarihi Likya medeniyetlerine ev sahipliği yapmış. Dünyaca meşhur Likya yolunun bir bölümü de bu kasabadan geçmektedir.

In Kalkan and nearby Patara, swimming is sometimes prohibited when the wind blows very strongly. When we arrived at Kalkan beach, there was a light breeze. After we started swimming, the wind intensified. The sea became choppy. It became increasingly difficult to enter the sea from the shore. Although the foamy spectacle created by the waves crashing against the rocks looked beautiful, swimming became much more difficult. So we got out of the sea and went for a stroll through its famous narrow streets.

Kalkan ve yakınındaki Patara'da zaman zaman rüzgarın çok sert estiği vakitlerde denize girmeyi yasaklıyorlar. Biz Kalkan plajına geldiğimizde, havada hafif rüzgar esintisi vardı. You can easily see the whitewashed houses on the highest points of the town. Narrow streets stretch down from the hills, and you descend stairs to reach the beach. Colorful houses and guesthouses line these narrow streets. Even the greenish flowers clinging to the stone walls add a special beauty to the alleys. Some of the side streets feature old stone houses that have been restored and made even more beautiful. Long-standing shops in the area offer souvenirs and local goods to their customers.

Kasabanın en uç tepe noktalarında beyaz badanalı evleri rahatlıkla görebilirsiniz. Tepelerden aşağılara kadar uzanan dar sokaklarında merdivenlerden aşağılara kadar inerek sahile ulaşıyorsunuz. Dar sokak aralarında birbirinden renkli evler ve pansiyonlar var. Hatta evlerin taşlarına sarılan yeşilimsi çiçekler sokak aralarına ayrı bir güzellikte gösteriyor. Bazı ara sokaklarsa eski taş evler, yeniden onarılarak daha güzel hala getirilmiş. Uzun zamandır bölgede duran dükkanlar, gelen müşterilere hediyelik eşya ve yöreye ait malzemeler tanıtıyorlar.

During our trip, I saw foreign tourists staying in the side streets. We even saw the tourists who settled here sweeping in front of their doors, watering their flowers, and hanging laundry. The colorful paintings decorating the walls of the streets also add a fairytale-like and intimate atmosphere to the place.

Gezimiz sırasında, ara sokaklarda yabancı turistlerin kaldıklarını görüyorum. Hatta buralara yerleşen turistlerin kapı önlerini süpürdüklerini, çiçeklerini suladıklarını ve çamaşır astıklarını bile gördük. Sokakların duvarları rengarenk boyalarla süslenmiş olması buraya masalsı ve samimi bir hava da katıyor.

We were a little hungry while wandering through the side streets. Finding our way to the center was difficult, navigating through narrow, stair-filled streets. Looking around the center, I can say there are plenty of options, especially for seafood lovers. Restaurants near the seaside offer a wide variety of fish dishes to choose from. If you venture a little further inland, you can find delicious Mediterranean cuisine such as Yörük kebab, serpme börek (a type of pastry), various soups, and Toros salad.

Ara sokaklarda gezerken biraz acıkmıştık. Merkeze giden yolu dar ve merdivenli yollardan geçerek zor bulduk. Merkezde etrafa baktığımızda, genelde deniz ürünlerini sevenler için bol seçenekler olduğunu söyleyebilirim. Özellikle deniz kenarına yakın restoranlarda balık ve çeşitlerinden dilediğiniz lezzeti seçme imkanınız oluyor. Biraz iç taraflara yöneldiğinizde Akdeniz'in en lezzetli mutfağından olan yörük kebabı, serpme börek, çorba çeşitleri ve toros salatası tercih edebileceğiniz lezzetler arasındadır.

In Kalkan, where we were caught in the rage of the wind, we found it much better to wander through the side streets and explore the beauty of the surroundings. We ended our day sipping hot tea on a hilltop, enjoying the spectacular view of the sea.

Rüzgarın hışımına denk geldiğimiz Kalkan'da ara sokaklarda gezmek ve etrafın güzelliklerini keşfetmek bize daha iyi gelmişti. Denizin görsel şölenini izlediğimiz bir tepe noktasında sıcak çayımızı yudumlayarak günümüzü bitirmiştik.
