Hola querido hiver.
El día que di el paseo por el Parque Grande de Zaragoza tenía en mente un objetivo principal: visitar el Jardín Botánico que ha sido renovado por completo y se abrió de nuevo al público a finales de 2025.
Este espacio tiene su origen a finales del siglo XVIII y ha sido rehabilitado en varias ocasiones, así como ha recibido varios nombres. Con esta última mejora se le ha cambiado el nombre en honor a Francisco Loscos, que fue pionero en documentar la flora de la región.
Cuando entramos por la puerta principal del Jardín Botánico desembocamos en una gran plaza con una fuente central y rodeada de bancos donde descansar y refrescarse bajo las sombras de los árboles que rodean el espacio.
La fuente está forrada con azulejos cerámicos en los que aparecen reproducciones de dibujos de plantas realizados por Francisco Loscos.
Este día era a principios de primavera, por lo que no encontré muchas flores. En algunos casos tampoco ayudó el viento suave que soplaba, que se agradecía porque hacía calor pero movía a mis modelos impidiendo un adecuado enfoque.
Los bancos que rodean la fuente están renovados casi al completo. Han dejado algunos azulejos originales como testigos del estado en el que se encontraban antes de esta última reforma. Los diseños son preciosos y resultan ser anuncios de la época original, supongo que de empresas que en su momento sufragaron parte de los gastos de construcción del jardín.
Desde la plaza central parten tres senderos. Tienen un diseño universal, adecuado para que las personas con discapacidad no encuentren barreras para recorrerlo. Es un detalle que como terapeuta ocupacional suelo apreciar por deformación profesional.
Además de los senderos, un par de pequeños canales de agua serpentean por entre los árboles y resto de plantas que nos salen al paso. Junto a cada especie hay carteles identificativos y les acompaña un código QR en el que podemos ampliar la información.
En este paseo hice el recorrido remontando las corrientes de agua, terminando en unas pequeñas cataratas cuyo sonido se mezclaba con el canto de los pájaros y que me despidieron al salir.

On the day I took a walk through Zaragoza’s Parque Grande, I had one main goal in mind: to visit the Botanical Garden, which has been completely renovated and reopened to the public at the end of 2025.
This space dates back to the late 18th century and has been refurbished on several occasions, as well as having been given various names. With this latest refurbishment, it has been renamed in honour of Francisco Loscos, who was a pioneer in documenting the region’s flora.
As we enter through the main gate of the Botanical Gardens, we find ourselves in a large square with a central fountain, surrounded by benches where visitors can rest and cool off in the shade of the trees that surround the space.
The fountain is clad in ceramic tiles featuring reproductions of plant drawings by Francisco Loscos.
It was early spring, so I didn’t find many flowers. In some cases, the gentle breeze didn’t help either; whilst it was welcome because it was warm, it caused my subjects to move, making it difficult to focus properly.
The benches surrounding the fountain have been almost entirely refurbished. Some original tiles have been left in place as a reminder of their condition prior to this latest renovation. The designs are beautiful and appear to be advertisements from the original period, presumably from companies that at the time contributed towards the cost of building the garden.
Three paths lead off from the central square. They are universally designed, ensuring that people with disabilities can navigate them without encountering any barriers. It’s a detail that, as an occupational therapist, I tend to appreciate out of professional habit.
As well as the footpaths, a couple of small water channels wind their way through the trees and other plants along the route. Next to each species there are identification signs, accompanied by a QR code where you can find further information.
On this walk, I followed the watercourses upstream, ending at some small waterfalls whose sound mingled with the birdsong and which bid me farewell as I left.

Buenas tardes Paloma, me puedo imaginar ese suave viento acompañado del sonido de l agua y de las aves.... He disfrutado mucho de las flores, pero sobre todo disdfruto en tus publicaciones por tu atención a determinados detalles.
La cerámica con los dibujos de Francisco Loscos y los bancos adornados con esos anuncios de época son espectaculares. Este es el tipo de detalles de los que hablo, de la mirada tan particular que muestras en cada paseo, en cada viaje.

Estoy cautivada con el color de las flores, imagino que tienen un increíble aroma, aunque estaba iniciando la primaveras las que ya habían florecido estaban tan hermosas.
Ese día el aroma de las flores no se apreciaba por el viento, pero en unas semanas habrá una exposición floral en este parque y quiero volver para tomar más fotos. Es posible que entonces se pueda disfrutar del perfume. 😃

It's fascinating that the garden dates back to 1796! Are there any monumental trees left from that era or from the later reconstruction?
I don't know how old the trees are, but I've known most of them there since I can remember and that's been about 40 years, hehe.

He leído tu post sobre el Jardín Botánico de Zaragoza y me ha parecido una publicación completa, tanto por las imágenes como por el contexto histórico y personal que aportas. Me ha gustado mucho cómo has enlazado el pasado del jardín con su presente: mencionas que fue creado a finales del siglo XVIII y rehabilitado en varias ocasiones, y contextualizas que la última gran reforma, inaugurada a finales de 2025. Es interesante que ahora lleve el nombre de Francisco Loscos, ese botánico aragonés pionero en documentar la flora regional.
También me han gustado mucho los detalles pequeños que compartes, como los azulejos originales que se conservan o el diseño universal de los senderos. Que lo destaques desde tu experiencia como terapeuta ocupacional me parece un gran acierto.
Por otro lado, ver tus fotos y leer tu paseo por los canales de agua hasta las pequeñas cataratas transmite una sensación de calma muy bonita. El hecho de que incluyas los códigos QR junto a cada especie habla de tu dedicación a crear contenido valioso y accesible.
