My last exam took me to Ankara once again, but this time the journey felt very different. It was not a long trip with a suitcase and hotel plans. It was a one-day adventure. I went in the morning, took my exam, met one of my dear friends, had a lovely dinner, and returned to Istanbul at night. It was tiring, but it was also one of those days that stays in your memory.

Before leaving home, I did something different too. Normally, after the morning prayer, I sit on the balcony and study. For many days, that was my routine. But on this exam morning, I did not study at all. I took my coffee, water, and beetroot juice, sat on the balcony, and simply watched the sunrise for almost an hour. That quiet time felt very precious to me.

Sometimes we think we always need to do more, study more, and push harder. But that morning reminded me that resting the mind is also important. I had studied enough. I had done my best. So I just watched the sky slowly change color. It was a calm beginning before a long and stressful day.

This time I also traveled by high-speed train. I am not sure if a five-hour train ride can really be called “high-speed,” but it was still a very comfortable journey. I chose business class and paid around 1,500 Turkish lira, which is roughly 32 USD, depending on the exchange rate. For that comfort, I think it was a very good choice.

The seats were wide, the distance between the seats was very good, and the atmosphere was peaceful. Since the train left early in the morning, breakfast was served, and I did not know that. It was a very sweet surprise. I had also brought my own tea and nuts with me because I have been trying to eat more carefully lately.

I am trying to eat healthier these days, so I try not to eat everything outside. Still, that breakfast was really good for me. I did not eat everything at once. I kept the juice and cake for later, and that turned out to be a very good decision. Sometimes small things like this make a difficult day much easier.

There was also a very sweet elderly lady sitting next to me. She could not walk around very easily, but she was so kind. In the train, there was a small shared area where tea, coffee, and small snacks were sold. At one point, she bought tea for both of us. It was such a small but beautiful detail of the journey.

I love these small human moments during travel. Sometimes a journey is not only about the road, the city, or the destination. It is also about the people we meet for a short time. Maybe we never see them again, but their kindness stays with us.

After about five hours, I arrived in Ankara. From the station, I took a short minibus ride to the exam area. The weather was very hot, and before the exam I needed to pray. So I went to the prayer room. It was cool, quiet, and peaceful inside. I had almost two hours before the exam, and I spent that time there.

Honestly, it was much better than sitting in a café. I studied a little, rested a little, and tried to calm myself. After a while, I felt hungry and weak. I think my blood sugar was low because of the long journey and exam stress. Then I ate the cake and drank the juice from the train breakfast. It felt perfect at that moment.
O an gerçekten çok iyi geldi.

The exam was stressful because this lesson felt like a summary of the other three lessons. There were many topics, numbers, percentages, dates, and small details. I was afraid everything would mix in my mind. Thankfully, the exam was not as bad as I expected. I still confused some things, but I hope I will get the score I want.
Her şeyin zihnimde karışmasından korkuyordum.

After the exam, I felt tired but lighter. One of the best parts of going to Ankara is meeting people I love there. This time, I met one of my dear friends and her sister. They were very kind and treated me to dinner. After a long train ride, an exam, and hours of stress, that dinner felt like a real reward.

We went to a beautiful place and had a very nice meal. I ate a meat dish with rice, but I cannot remember its name right now. My friend and I chose the same dish, and her sister had köfte. I was really hungry, so I enjoyed every bite. I also ate some of the bread on top of the dish because I truly needed energy.

There were also salad, onions, small meze plates, and plain soda on the table. I tried to stay balanced because I knew I would travel again at night. My flight back to Istanbul was late, and I did not want to eat another big meal at a very late hour. So I ate well at dinner and tried to continue the evening more lightly.

At the end, I could not say no to my friend. Two bowls of sütlaç came to the table, and three of us shared them with tea. In Turkey, tea after a meal always feels like a small tradition. Of course, this place was not exactly like Aspava, which I shared before. In Aspava, many treats and desserts come as part of the experience. But this dinner was also very warm and special in its own way.

After dinner, we walked a little and then went to another place. The weather was still hot, so we wanted to drink something cold. There was a newly opened place around the 1071 area, and we sat there for a while. It was also very pleasant. Sometimes after a busy day, sitting somewhere calmly with friends feels like the best part of the whole day.

Ankara has a calm but strong feeling for me. Maybe because I lived there before, maybe because many important memories are connected to this city. Every time I come back, I feel both like a visitor and like someone returning to an old chapter of life.

Later at night, I went to the airport and flew back to Istanbul. By the time I reached home, it was around 3 a.m. I was very tired, but also very thankful. The day had started with sunrise, coffee, beetroot juice, and a quiet balcony. Then it continued with a train ride, a kind elderly lady, exam stress, prayer, friendship, food, tea, and a night flight.
Gecenin ilerleyen saatlerinde havalimanına gittim ve İstanbul’a uçakla döndüm.

Now my exams are over, and that feels strange. On one side, I feel relieved. A big weight has been lifted from my shoulders. On the other side, I feel a little empty. When you study for a long time, your mind gets used to having a goal every day. Suddenly, when that goal is finished, you ask yourself, “What should I do now?”

But I do not want to lose my discipline. I want to keep reading, learning, writing, and working on myself. This one-day Ankara trip reminded me that a person can carry many things in one day: stress, hope, prayer, study, hunger, friendship, fatigue, and gratitude.

So this was my latest Ankara adventure: one day, one train, one exam, one dinner, and many small beautiful moments. It was not a perfect day, but it was a real one. And maybe that is why I loved it. Because the best journeys are not always the easiest ones. Sometimes, they are the ones that make us feel stronger when we return home.

It was a wonderful trip full of unforgettable memories. Combining an exam, friendship, and a trip all in one day was an incredible experience. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Thank you so much for your kind words! It was really a tiring but beautiful day, and I’m happy to share these small memories here. 😊
Thank you very much
I like the "storytelling" format of your post as it puts me in the passenger seat with you... 😃 Seeing the train, plane, restaurants, and streets, I got a huge motivation to work on the next trip! Btw. maybe not intensive like yours that day, as almost 24 hours is a bit too much for me nowadays...
Good to hear that you are satisfied with how you did your exam, and the rest are bonus memories you got from this trip! And you will be able to re-check this post in the future and see how great a day it was!
