Gowalhat mela, Dinajpur

The Goalhat Mela, located in Goalhat, Dinajpur district, is well known as a traditional and vibrant fair in North Bengal. Every year, this fair lasts for about a month and thousands of people from different areas of the region gather here. This Goalhat Mela is a wonderful meeting place of rural culture, trade and entertainment, which carries special importance in the lives of the local people.

As soon as you enter the fair, you will see rows of different shops. There are various stalls here, including cosmetics shops, toy shops, fruit shops, chutney shops, and clothing shops. Each shop has colorful arrangements to attract buyers. There is also a small park here, especially for children, where they can spend time happily. Nagardola, small rides, and various entertainment facilities make the fair more attractive to children.

A special aspect of Goalhat Mela is that various types of furniture are available here. Almost all types of wooden and metal furniture, including beds, cupboards, chairs and tables, are sold here. In addition, kitchen utensils, clay pots and pans, various steel and aluminum items are also easily available. As a result, this fair is considered an important center not only for entertainment, but also for shopping. Of course, I buy materials for children from this fair. I buy garlands for my niece.

During the day, a livestock market is held here, which is another major attraction of the fair. Animals like cows, goats, sheep, etc. are bought and sold, and people from nearby villages buy or sell animals according to their needs. This livestock market plays an important role in the local economy and creates a big opportunity for farmers and traders.

I try to go to this fair every year. This year I went with my college seniors, which will be a special experience for me. The day was very enjoyable, walking around with friends, visiting different shops, buying my favorite things and enjoying the atmosphere of the fair. Especially after evening, the lights of the fair and the noise of the people take on a different form, which fills the mind. For me, this fair is very intimate and a fair to enjoy food.
