I beautiful archaeological park of the Roman temple of Jupiter Anxur./ Hermoso parque arqueológico del templo romano de Júpiter Anxur.

Good evening, friends, how are you? I hope all is well. Here I am with the final installment of my trip to Terracina. I'll take you to one of the most magical and unique places in this city, where we'll step back in time to the ancient Temple of Jupiter Anxur. The temple is now a large, beautiful, and unique open-air archaeological site. It's a natural monument that's part of the Monti Ausoni Regional Park. This archaeological park is also located on a mountain about 300 meters above sea level. The location was also important. This site was chosen for the temple, not least for the magnificent view from the top of the mountain, which extends from the sea to the Pontine Islands. It was a strategic location to make the temple even more sacred, choosing a uniquely charming hilltop, a place that seems suspended between earth and sky—a truly beautiful place. The temple, of course, has Roman origins and was built during the Republican era. The temple, as was the custom of that era, was arranged in a particular way, on various terraces. At the top was the terrace called the entrenched field, because it housed a large field dedicated to the military training of soldiers.

The entrenched camp also had a small temple so as not to detract from its sacredness, a well, and cisterns, and was surrounded by several buildings. In the Middle Ages, an observation tower was built here. The main temple was located on the central terrace, but not many remains remain. It was located near a rock called the Oracle Rock because it was said that this was where the sacred premonitions of the oracles took place. The temple was very large, but today only the podium, pieces of the staircase, and some ruins remain. It was the city's main temple. In the Middle Ages, a small church was built there, probably dedicated to San Silvano (so it seems from the remaining relics). The last terrace is the best preserved, with ancient porticoes still in good condition and magnificent, offering a view of the sea. This terrace is connected to a cave, which is also surrounded by many myths and legends! However, it is still unclear to which deity the temple was dedicated; there are various theories that remain unresolved. The temple was so large that it could be seen from afar and served as a compass for merchants, citizens, soldiers, and anyone in need of divine intervention. The temple was very important to the socioeconomic life of the city.

I remember reaching the temple on foot and it was a lot of work but it was definitely worth it because I remember that the path to get there was also very beautiful, surrounded by beautiful nature. In any case, if you go to Terracina you absolutely must visit this archaeological park whether you love history or you love nature and beautiful views!

Hi Noemi, I hope you're doing well. I'd like to give you some tips to improve the appearance of your posts. I hope you don't mind :).

I suggest using horizontal photos with the horizon straight; these look better and more elegant. If you have vertical photos, you can put them in a two- or three-column table, and they'll fit better on the page. You can also avoid blurry and/or repeated photos, or photos that show the same thing; this is unnecessary.

I hope these tips help you, and that your posts become more valuable. Best regards!

No no i don't mind any tips its useful, also Because I'm not a photo expert so I surely commit some mistakes when I use my phone camera ( shame on me I'm still dint know all the functions). I can edit some photos in the same way I edited my recipes in a four column image, probably will be more organised. About the photos yes I noticed seeing some of my post some photos are really similar and not necessarily probably it's better using less photos but more qualitative. Thank you very much I hope my next post will be better I'll will try to edit it differently maybe I will have s good result. I hope so !
